Re: breakdown truck
I had a 2.5Pi Estate .. Mk 1 version in the 70s. I needed something a bit bigger as the Family taxi and this fitted the bill! Maroon with tan leather interior! A full length sun roof was wonderful in the summer .. but leaked onto the rear passengers in really heavy rain!!Dick wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 5:24 pmMy brother just bought this...

The straight-six purred and the overdrive worked on 3 & 4 using a switch on the steering column so you could say it actually had 6 gears!
Wasn't the most reliable of beasts as the diff exploded after 2 1/2 months! (3 month warranty .. phew!). Then the clutch operating arm snapped ... and that's a hefty gearbox to drop when you only had ramps! The final straw was when we had engine issues though. The crank only has two thrust washers on the rear journal and these suffered when worn as the crank would run on the block ... we only noticed as my Dad mentioned my cooling fan was moving (mounted on crank pulley) as I was pumping the clutch pedal when we were trying to diagnose an odd noise! I had the block welded to build up the wear and ground back to fit the thrust washer ... but even then trying to find someone to do it was a nightmare. While is was sitting around the fuel injection pump (mechanical gummed up). It was here it was sold-on .. to a mate who swapped out the PI for twin carbs. But even he gave up when one of the rear suspension arms split leading to some wild negative camber .. on one side. As he used it to tow his rally car, that wasn't the best style of suspension!

Given the volatile state, what with Putin behaving like his predecessor Ras-Putin, the price of fuel and the availability of oil. Rather than sit in a dead car making brum-brum noises, I shall probably do what a lot of other old farts do, revert back to childhood. Full Size Pedal Car.

I never knew these existed
There's a few of these about although not too many were built. Based on a galvanised Reliant Kitten chassis with alloy bodywork they were really too heavy for the body ergo a bit underpowered but still great fun!
There's an active Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/PK-Jimp-269894383054559/
