breakdown truck

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Could you get the delisherpafridolin or the maxi delivered?
From Cornwall? The fuel would cost more than the van  , then there's the elephant in the room that is a manual gearbox. Nope, not one for me but thanks for the thought and for trying to encourage me!

The Maxi is a decent prospect, but IF, and that's a big if  , I buy another vehicle at this time, it's going to be tractor shaped (tractors aren't divided into manual and automatic licence classes, just as three wheeled devices aren't, loopholes eh, gotta love those!) or, if a car, something that's far closer to readiness for bouts of daily use which is where the Metro would come into the equation. It's under 300 miles from me, it appears to be a genuinely original car and although they're fairly close to the floor, I didn't break any bones last time I drove one and there's a surprising amount of room for my long legs in there,
They offer possible delivery on the Metro     so it's on my spotcher, but much as I like the idea I'm going to wait and see whether someone else comes along for it.

The Maestro seems like an honestly described, usable car that's had the roof cloth done, the one thing that's usually in need of work in even the best surviving examples of the Allegro's successor. I like MGF wheels on these, the rust spots the seller has highlighted appear to be minor and fixable before they become worrying, but even if that were a 1600 with automatic transmission it's not something I'd be suited with. Metro for the win.

Now take a look at this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hanomag-Merc ... Swat9ekxUa

Imagine taking that to a show loaded with the vintage Morris (pre-war OHC Minor?) that's illustrated in the photos. That would be quite a thing to see and, speaking as one who has been to shows with a 4x4 device disguised as a campervan, the German truck would be a welcome sight if the field was wet. ;) £££!

The lockdown is certainly having a bad effect on John. He has regressed, mentioning Maxi's, Metro's, Maestro's, even that disastrous Allegro got a mention. But I didn't see the word Marina or Ital, so that was one small mercy. Even so, I still had to go and lay down, my missus brought the smelling salts. I hope it was all a nasty dream.

The above post illustrates precisely why I will gladly defend the Maxi, Metro and other cars that seem unloved! ;)
I thought that perhaps the inclusion of the truck with the really old car on its bed would ameliorate your distress at my words, GHT, but the world of old motor vehicles would be incredibly dull if everyone loved the same makes and models.
I probably prefer these "unexceptional" vehicles, but that doesn't make me dislike others' choices, even if they're not 1960s-1990s cars that some folk view as the stuff of jokes.

Too right john, i love most odd cars. although you won't get much support for the metro and maestro from me.. had one of each and they were truly awful.. not fit even to lick the ugliest allegros bald tyres

Well one of those who made comment says it's a snowmobile, and the dog is barking the word "snowmobile" throughout the clip, but I think that the dog could be wrong, and that it's some form of amphibious device (it's boatish, but the round things at each corner appear to be hubs) or maybe or maybe I've been locked up down for too long?

One small criticism: It appears to have no doors... :?

What you have uncovered there is a prototype. Just like early aircraft that went from fixed wheeled bi-planes to swing wing, supersonic jets, so to did your rather unusual find. You should see what it morphed into:
