breakdown truck
Re: breakdown truck
€9k seems a lot for the Nissan, is that what they're worth these days or is the vendor taking the Michael?
Out of the rest, the Mr2 seems like a plan, especially as it's finished in that loud colour. Also, it probably won't go wrong.. But as it's you who's looking maybe take a meter to check for alternator output before splashing the cash!

Re: breakdown truck
cars over here are generally much more expensive, my clio cost me less than a grand to buy & register including certificate of conformity & lights, but if i had bought a lhd model from here it would have cost me between 3 & 4 k...i quite like the toyota & l love the colour ( just needs a jcb badge ) but i can get lower mileage ones back in blighty for the same money, the mazda has always been on my wish list
the merc looks nice but can i afford it? are they reliable? & the mg i liked as its only an hour away... is there no love for them?? i shall probably waste the money on things like food & bills but i can always dream.. but in case someone has an idea for a coupé that seats 4.. i have to ask my insurance company for quotes... xk8??

Mmm.. @ the Porcelain Green Wolseley 1500. I love those and that appears to be a decent enough specimen to be going on with. Buy it, you know you need some ancient BMC in your life!

Re: breakdown truck
ive just offered the chap €1200 for the grey mg...
Re: breakdown truck
Good luck with the MG. At least it's a TF, so has some springs & dampers just like a real car.
I love that pickup and am already starting to consider selling my house to buy one! It would be great to play monster trucks with the neighbours' cars
Oh wait, if I sell the house I would have the truck but not the neighbours..

Re: breakdown truck
You might get lucky, he might refuse your offer, if so, you have dodged a bullet. The 'K' series engine with it's strengthening bolts that go through the rockers, the engine block and the bearing caps. Who came up with that idea? That engine, in a TF, blows head gaskets more than Linda Lovelace.

Perhaps, for the benefit of our younger members, you should explain who Linda Lovelace is, or was.

Re: breakdown truck
Linda Boreman, better known as Linda Lovelace, achieved sexual notoriety thanks to a film, shot in a Florida hotel room, that would overshadow the rest of her unhappy life. In 1972, she starred in Deep Throat, a phenomenally successful hardcore sex film that made her the world’s first porn superstar. If you want to know more about this tragic woman Google her name, only if you do, make sure that nobody is looking over your shoulder.
Back to the TF. The reason that I commented about the 'K' series engine was because in the MG, it's mounted mid engine style. The car is notorious for doing a Linda Lovelace to your head gasket and if you haven't got the nous, the spanners and the time, you are looking at £750 for a replacement head gasket. there is an interesting thread on the MG TF forum. There is also a plus side in that most people know about the head gasket and Linda Lovelace, as well as the cost of the repairs, this leads to very cheap prices for the car. So if you think that you can do a replacement head gasket, then go for it. !800 yoyos is a bit dear Rich, about a grand is more realistic.
Given the saving that you could make, you could easily customise your TF. RPS have come up with some GRP panels that give the car an updated look. Very competitively priced, for example:
Front bumper/splitter - £185, Rear bumper - £190, Bonnet (without internal mouldings) - £120, Bonnet (with internal mouldings) - £175, Boot lid (without internal mouldings) - £125, Boot lid (with internal mouldings) - £184, Rear air scoops - £75 (pair), Front vents - £75 (pair) Click on the links and see for yourself, there's also a photo of a car with the panels attached and paint blended, not my cup of tea, but you will probably love it. Goodness know where you are going to put three kids, though.
