police camera etc

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

I watch several of the police "fly on the wall" things. It's great when they pull someone over and say "you have no insurance" then the motorist says they are insured on their brothers friends sisters boyfriends mates policy. Always makes me smile.
Did you catch the one on the BBC last week with the stolen Artic tractor unit?
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

The ones we have here are mostly American clips.

I don't know whether that means there are more fools in America than the resto of the world, or just they have more video cameras in their cop cars?

I do watch a New Zealand thing called "Motorway Patrol" which is quite good.

Yeah, we get that one here, only about four years after it's shown in NZ I should think. The thing that strikes me about that show is just how similar the NZ traffic cops seem to be to the UK ones in that they demonstrate an ability to listen and will weigh up the situation objectively before using their discretion to decide upon the best course of action. :shock:

(An old school mate of mine has been a serving polis for many years and she gets really wound up by unfair criticism of her profession and its standards....)

Street Wars I think it is, is filmed near where my girlfriend comes from in Medway... her house was on it once, someone crashed into the bus stop outside it. lovely.

I've watched Road Wars on SKY a few times.

Always seems to be the same format;

Chasing skinny lads (with sticky out ears) in uninsured Ford Orions through housing estates. Catching Polish Truck Drivers on the motorway who cannot speak English and finding their driving licence is invalid in this country.

That said I still keep watching (and possibly learning?)

One of my faves was when a trucker was caught using his phone and when they stopped him he was breathalyzed and found to be 3 times the drink-drive limit. When they tested him again down the station he was still twice the limit! The police found cans of Special Brew in his cab.
