Subscription is only required for the HD versions of the shows. This I know as I'm so tight that
The 480p versions are free, that's sufficiently good to allow the "fussier viewer " to see any questionable practice in detail .A man far wiser than I wrote:only dogs can hear my farts..

Would that be one of those amazing engine kits from Anthony Mount? The device reminds me that one of the best ever engineering-related television shows was - IMHO - Salvage Squad, one of very few sources of material for anyone with an interest in any flavour of engine, be it found in a fairground ride or in a classic car.

Re: car sos.
It's a small steam powered engine similar to the one that I saw at a festival in Bournemouth last summer. The one that I saw, powered a record player, it can power almost anything electric that needs motion. It isn't a modern take on steam technology, it actually dates back to late 19th century. The idea being that it could be used in remote and rural parts of the world. For example, sewing machines have been used throughout parts of Africa since their invention, but the motive power had always been by the operative, either a hand cranking handle or foot operated treadle.
Nowadays, it's more of a novelty rather than ideal for use in areas without mains electricity simply because solar panels have been made to be portable. Still, steam driven record players does have more of a romantic reminisce than Betamax. And for what it's worth, even when we had VHS, I still couldn't get my head around how to set it to record, still can't today, even with digital, I dare not try in case I do a Rich and break the bloody thing.

Time machine, Rich? I could be wrong but the way I read GHT's instructions, all was well. You set the machine to record something in the future, but the actual recording is made during or after the first air date of the material in question. On the other hand, several entire series of things can be downloaded and viewed before they appear on telly. WD is such a thing, Car SOS, being much more classy than pretty much anything American**, can only be downloaded on or before the date of its first showing.
**Simpsons and Last Man On Earth are exceptions to this sweeping generalisation, as is any news bulletin that uses the word "impeachment". I wonder; does that mean being sealed in a can with only some juice for company? We can hope!
