So drop into The Ferry in Cookham for a meal and these are passing by ..
There were about 60-70 vehicles apparently (we arrived towards the end of them) including a few conversions and a Dutton Commander II that seems to be having steering problems (and was being helped with an oar!) .. I remember seeing adverts for the latter in magazines like Car and Car Conversions and HotCar in the 70s.
This one wasn't in the group .. and I don't think it had the correct buoyancy when it's driver tried going "aquatic" ..
Wasn't expecting to see these ..

CUT7 was one of Dick Protheroe's racing Jags so while the plate may be amusing to those who mistake an aquatic thoroughfare for an actual cut, which is another synonym for a connecting road, street or similar - usually residential - public right of way, it's one of the best known cars of its era and the image of it in that water is from one of its more famous (and bizarre, it has to be said) offs from its racing career. Without meaning to offend the famously cyclops-like Mr Protheroe's family, perhaps racing driving wasn't the best of career choices for someone with no depth perception?
Nice work on seeing the small Amphicars though, they're pretty rare beasts these days, especially as their remaining afloat was entirely dependent upon the onboard pump's ability to clear the incoming water at the same rate as it entered the car. I like that these crazy German machines exist, but lack the bravery required to risk taking to the water in one. Call me a stick in the mud if you will, but I prefer to use a boat in water and keep my cars for the roads, a situation subject to change perhaps as Greenland is melting, flowing this way and should be visible from my kitchen window any day now!

Interesting the take on "cut" .. when was growing up "in the sarf", "cut" was a canal! And they say the UK and US is divided by a common language!
There were reported to be 60-70 amphibious vehicles in the group .. a few customs (one Range Rover, one Citroen DS19 we heard!) and some military types (one DUKW at least) .... They left the river at Marlow (St Peters Street) and then here at Cookham. Don't know where they went after that.
Local press is appalling at picking up on these events, or even getting the details correct. It reported that they were coming in August!!
