Photobucket ...

#1 Post by gazza82 » Mon Jul 03, 2017 2:14 pm

... has broken all the links to images on here and other forums ..

Since the weekend links to photobucket images from 3rd party sites, like this one, no longer work. If you have you photo collection on there and want others to se able to view them without logging into photobucket you need to (a) find a new hosting site and (b) edit ALL your links!

Photobucket are about to kick the bucket, that's why they have decided that if you want to stay with them they will charge you $500, yes, five hundred green backs, per year. Worth remembering their terms and conditions too, Here's a sample:

"When you make your Content public, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-revocable, right and license to copy, sell, convey, distribute, stream, post, publicly display (e.g. post it elsewhere), reproduce and create derivative works from it (meaning things based on it), whether in print or any kind of electronic version that exists now or is later developed, for any purpose, including a commercial purpose with the right to sub-license such rights to others."

You might think: "So what?" Well there was a case some years ago, that made all the newspapers, when a company that makes porn films, uploaded a copy of a fifteen year old girl and used it on the front of one of their f*** films. Imagine if that was your fifteen year old daughter. Nuff said.

Photo what now?

TuneIn radio are trying the same trick with their service, but - like Photobucket - there's no need to pay and neither there will be for anyone who bought a "pro" version years ago, when it was a one off payment for an indefinite period of service. All it takes is to give such services a really bad review, you know the sort of thing:
'freddie kruger', well known reviewer of software and annoying old twerp, wrote:"If I could give this no stars I would, but I couldn't, oh look, a really fluffy baby animal just walked past and I forgot why I came here..."

I have very few things on Bhotopucket simply because they have more pop ups these days than Couchtuner and every other legally questionable TV streaming service combined, flickR continues to provide a good service and hasn't asked for any more money since I bought their pro version in 2010, it's also easier to resize flickR images for use on web fora than it is with the Botop*ucket ones, but I seem to remember that most Retro Rides users hosted their images at photobucket so every cloud, etc!

Rich, are you sure you didn't break it? You're among friends here, we won't tell anyone. :P

I couldn't download full albums from Photobucket. Each attempt failed. I contacted their "support" and got this reply:

I am very sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused you. This is a known issue affecting several users and our engineering team is troubleshooting the problem. We will get this resolved as soon as we can!
Sorry, but for the time being you will need to download images individually.
Thank you for your patience and again, I am terribly sorry for this inconvenience!

I got the feeling that they are trying to make it difficult to leave. A major pain in the testes, but I downloaded over 400 photos one at a time!

I signed up for AWS, it's free for 12 months and working fine so far. A bit of fiddling to make the photos viewable by the public, but updating the forum posts was actually quite easy. I just used "Find and Replace" to update the URLs (except for the filename of the photo) from photobucket to Amazon. If anyone needs help with this, I'm happy to oblige.

The option to download the album, it seems, has now been removed from the options list. It appears you can only download individual photos and videos. A right royal PITA when there are over 2,500 images.

Found a way of getting entire libraries off. Trick is you need a mobile phone with enough room to store at least the largest the library and a USB cable that will connect the phone to a PC. Having WiFi will save you a fortune on data charges too..
* Fully charge the phone and hook it up to the PC via a USB cable.
*Open up Explorer or File manager and connect to the phone as a drive. Navigate to the pictures folder on your phone.
* Open up the Photobucket app on the phone.
* Go into your Libraries, open a Library and at top right you see three vertical dots. Tap on that and "Download Library" is an option.
* Tap on that menu item and the system will down load the library to your phone in a folder named "photobucket_<library_name>".
* Check the number of files in the library on Photobucket and make sure it matches the number of downloaded files. I found anything over 200 files in a library might need the download function run more than once to get them all.
* Using file manger or Explorer move that directory onto your preferred storage space.
* Repeat for every single library you have. You can stack up to half a dozen to download in succession. Note that if you have any sub-libraries these need to be downloaded as separate libraries - the system will NOT bring them down with the top level library..

And that is it!! Its taken me most of the day to get all mine down and I had to pause between libraries at one point to recharge the phone.
