Now that is a
proper beach buggy! But see when I say air conditioning, the absence of any form of weather protection wasn't quite what I had in mind. That said, the modern simply needed its compressor clutch solenoid replacing (local specialist - £20 plus a pint, which included his helping me to fit the part and flush, refill, leak test and set up the system properly, though he did have a hole in his glove where he caught it on a sharp edge, that hole led to his hand being severely frostbitten during the filling process and I then had to run him down to the nearest A&E (twenty four miles away) and bring him home again afterwards.
At least my aircon was properly cold (5C at the vents on its cold setting) by that time, so every cloud, etc.
On a serious note may I just state quite firmly that anyone who plans to do any work on their air conditioning machinery MUST wear better gloves than my chap was using, MUST wear goggles as a face full of Freon
will cause blindness and should also have thick clothing on the arms and any body parts likely to be in the firing line in the event of a catastrophic containment failure of the refrigerant.
The only reason I brought in some help was that checking the condenser for leaks involved getting on the ground to see properly under the car, whose coolant radiator, aircon condenser and transmission fluid cooler form a huge mass of pipes that wouldn't look out of place in the canteen of a Borg cube. I needed to be lowered and lifted onto and up from the ground. With hindsight, maybe I should have left the whole thing to the other bloke, but then my bill would have been more than the cost of the fuel, the beer and the twenty quid.
Damn! That is one gorgeous beach buggy.
