For me, the whole point of a Volvo 340 is the utterly dependable, purely mechanical & ecu-free Van Doorne CVT, Dad had one with the 4 speed manual and, while it worked well enough and was pretty good fun to drive, adding gears served no purpose but just made it less efficient, a lot slower and more complicated.
That said, KGF's pricing strategy seems to be much more realistic these days and the asking price seems fair for such a well kept, original car from any specialist dealer.
The A40 pickup might be somewhat expensive but at least he's not claiming MOT exemption for it, as many are in spite of vehicles as modified as that not qualifying. Indeed the whole description seems fine, but cheaper "Counties" commercials are out there, including this original one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Austin-a-40- ... 0009.m1982 which is mother exempt, whatever the hell that means. OK, so it's the less desirable Aussie version, but try finding a UK example that hasn't been modified. I couldn't, but I could find this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1953-Austin- ... 0009.m1982 whose seller claims would qualify for the test exemption, but presumably the buyer would be told the truth at the point of sale..

Eeeewww! What a waste of a no doubt perfectly serviceable Micra, although it's not a K10 so some sacrilege can be permitted, IMHO.
I love a good Fiat Multipla but that one would do at a stretch, assuming that the track driver comes with it and that they can cook.

But I really, really like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1980-Austin- ... Sw9RdbG7JL which has the rough & ready O series engine, so none of that E6 nonsense to worry about, no need for fuel additives and what a low mileage it's done.

Far too good for me though and besides, I've spent all of my car allowance for this century on a very tiny 4x4, a rear kitchen conversion and a pop top roof ( a GRP panel that fits simply by replacing the existing roof which is bolted into place between the upper body side frames) for the daily Toyota. So much as I love a slightly saggy, probably just about to burst example of the wedgiest of all the wedge shaped cars, I had thought that maybe you would fancy a tidy Princess instead as I'd only break it or experience catastrophic bowel trouble while perched on that super clean, beige driver's seat.

Rich, I've imported two cars for myself now, plus a further half dozen or so for others who've needed some advice - based not in "expertise" but in experience gained and errors made - but I'm not any kind of expert and find the concept rather uncomfortable.
I haven't a clue how the whole VAT thing works in your example, because my experiences all relate to the (relatively) safe process of registering JDM imports in the UK and the demystification of the law applying to that type of thing, but as Jersey is British - an assumption based on my watching Bergerac on the telly - then surely it can't be that complex as all you'd be doing would be registering a car from one EU member country in another EU country?
Do what I've done; buy the car, bring it to France and then worry about whether you've done things correctly and be prepared to learn quickly and to plead ignorance if there's some minor point of law that looks like catching you out! Google came up with this: https://smartexpat.com/france/brittany/ ... sey-348187 which may help you to achieve your MX5 owning dreams, but makes the process appear far less simple than importing and registering Japanese cars in the UK!

The rear kitchen conversion for the bB consists of a cabinet that sits in the space behind the seats. This has a sink with a pump that brings water up from the car's underfloor fresh water tank and a two burner hob that can be supplied to run from the car's propane tank or from a separate gas cylinder, I'll go for the latter as the LPG system makes so much noise that its advantages are outweighed by the damned rattles coming from its injectors, so it will be coming off shortly which will allow me to replace the bB's plastic inlet manifold with a metal one, further reducing the noise from the engine bay, all of which bugs me when the engine itself, a typically eerily quiet 2NZ, makes less noise than the cooling fans do and they're not exactly raucous:

And yes, number one has been leaking, which is why it's not covered in the same fluffy stuff as the other three. But no explosion has happened yet so that's ok..

Jersey is not part of the EU, that's why you can go there and buy duty free.

I hadn't realised this. I noticed, when looking at the information available, that the Channel Islands have a "special relationship" with the EU.
Now where have we heard that before?
;)

The Isle of Man holds neither membership nor associate membership of the European Union, and lies outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Nonetheless, Protocol 3 permits trade in Manx goods without non-EU tariffs. In conjunction with the Customs and Excise agreement with the UK, this facilitates free trade with the UK. While Manx goods can be freely moved within the EEA, people, capital and services cannot.

Like Jersey and Guernsey, the Isle of Man is neither part of the United Kingdom nor a direct member of the European Community, but its relationship with the EU is defined under Article 355(5)(c) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (former Article 299 of the EC Treaty) and Protocol 3.

The restriction on free movement of persons is anomalous in that the treaty establishing the EU clearly states that all citizens of member states will also be citizens of the EU. However a special protocol was inserted in the Treaty of Accession which excluded the Channel Islands and Isle of Man from the provisions governing free movement of people. This was done at the request of the governments of those Crown dependencies.
