Not yet, but in the meantime, Val Doonican sang a song about it, though it's possibly even more shades of green than that!

Love the Pug bus it's just a bit rich for something that requires a restoration though - if the vendor would take £3.5K for it I would be hooking the trailer up and be on my way over to France for it

Meanwhile back on the case with JPB - John there are 3 Javelins in the markets at present first one is the black one for sale in Essex that I initially sent you details of - but now on car & classic with pics - I don't think you can go wrong at this price

That VX1800 is the same colour as mine, which I swapped for a Morris Oxford VI back in 1990. I swapped it because there wasn't enough legroom for me and I was sick of having to put a settee cushion on the driver's seat to be able to drive it (almost) comfortably. It later had a 2.3ltr engine fitted and ran happily on 2 star being a LC one from my spare CF that I'd bought as a source of parts for the van, it was a great long distance car but these things were cramped and the seats far too low. I found an old 35mm print of mine, this taken in Beadnell during the summer of 1988:

I'd just been down to Kingston Park (by the airport) to sell my Lada 1500 Kombi - at a profit  - to a specialist who was sending them back to Russia, and had taken a bus to get me back up home. On its way, that bus went around the outskirts of Cramlient and one of its scheduled stops was just outside an old BMC dealership that had become a general used car trader's premises. There I spotted TYA on his front, then a 10 year old car, with a screen price of a mere £275. I had £1300 in my belt after selling the Lada so figured that I'd get off the bus to have a look.
The VX, although not exactly old at then, had fairly crusty rear arches but was otherwise good so I agreed to buy it at the asking price if the guy put it straight through an MOT, which he did although its LSD almost caught him out. He hadn't known that it had one, so put t in the rollers to test the brakes. IT showed great numbers when both rears were read, but then, as soon as he locked off the n/s wheel, the car had nowhere to go but sideways and it nearly caught on the pillar of the lift.
So, after continuing the brake test (better late than never) with the Tapley, a pass certificate and the car became mine. Just as well because the bus had only stayed at that stop for ten minutes so without the car, I'd have waited for a day to get home!
I enjoyed its effortless ability to cover the ground but it just wasn't designed for people with short bodies and long legs to drive.

Chris, thanks for the links, I think I prefer the red one in Cheshire, if only because if it were to be put through an MOT test, it has an asset that would cover the buyer in case the rest of the car fell apart. Not that I'm into separating cars from their original plates, but also it's closer (just) and its owner bothered their backside and provided what appears to be an objective view of its overall condition when asked. However, either of these lovely old things would soon suffer from daily use as they both have rusty bits that concern me - given how deeply you had to delve into your green project car just to find its corroded areas - and rough upholstery that would need some tacky tiger skin covers urgently.

I think I'll maybe extend my search to New Zealand as I already do some business with a guy over there who sends stuff to the UK and wasn't remotely phased when I asked him about the logistics involved in getting a car to the UK from his home turf. Javelins turn up there from time to time and although the absence of salt and the favourable climate are no guarantee that anything old will be free from rot, the chances are improved.
:)

That P5 is rather fine, probably the best I've seen on the 'bay for yonks but at 18mpg downhill with a following gale the P5B would probably be less thirsty and makes nice V8 noises, albeit in a subtle, gentlemanly sort of way. Then there's the fact that the original P5's IoE IL6 is not only very smooth and whisper quiet, but is also pretty slow if the grey one I drove to a show (Auto Sunday in Bracknell, circa 1989 iirc) was anything to go by.
VDP 1300? Not really though I do like the way that its AP gearbox only behaves as an auto when in 4th, otherwise it provides something to do with the left hand. However, the seller of that one is known to me and is - based on experience - best avoided. Look at the negs; they all say it exactly as it is!
The Maxi looks straight but I'd wait for a Hydrolastic one to come along, with that AP auto option.
Toyota Crowns are such lovely old things, made from thick steel with strong engines and fabulously comfy seats but again, I couldn't get the required target mpg out of that unless it was being carried on the back of a beavertail.
