Rich, your ability to sniff out the weirdest and the least rational forms of motorised transportation has reached new heights with that BMW Isetta! It's rather lovely and should be available on prescription, IMHO, but sadly it's the guts of twenty grand and for that, one could pay off the child thieves who are holding those poor bairns hostage in that Land Rover-based device, and have change enough from the BMW Isetta's asking price to buy the Suzuki and the Sooty van!

Mazda yes please, though the statement that the auto was only available with extra doors is debatable, as the following example of the car found in salt mines all over the place: https://youtu.be/mLCNg0rR_h0 should prove.. ;)

And yes, I can see that the fairly rapid black 323 in the video has been converted from a five door one but was there really not a factory 3 door automatic available? That's a darned shame! :(

thanks mate i do try to reach new depths.. err i mean levels 8-) i quite like that bmw...
back in the 80s my dad bought an ex driving instructors 4 door 323 frogeye.. it had been fitted with new front & rear panels so that just left me the sills & rear arches to rebuild.. it was a great little car although getting parts was difficult so escort mk 1/2 parts were modified to fit.. when it was put back on the road father used it as family car & works van. when it was finally painted & a shiny new mot he sold it... which he did with anything that he could make a profit on..

A medal is due to your Dad. Seriously, I'm all for that sort of improvisation. It used to be considered normal practice to use Transit arches to repair the inevitably rotten ones on the Rootes group "Audax" shaped cars of the late fifties/early sixties, and also the larger ones such as the Superminx and that generation of Humber Sceptre. This transplant did change the cars' lines to an extent but, done properly, the donor parts fitted pretty well and looked fine if both side of the car were done at the same time..

I've driven one of those, it was a good few years ago, shortly after the RX8 was first on sale so naturally, being a nearly new car, the example I tried didn't come with a Lexus V8 (  ), but then doesn't that - very fine engine though Toyota's gorgeous 1UZ-FE is - kind of miss the point? ;)

But why the change of direction, Rich? I thought you'd set your heart on the MX5. You'd not catch me setting out to buy one car and ending up with something completely different.. :scared:
