The creator of that blue alternative to a Triumph Spitfire wrote:Headlights are from a Mazda MX5
Hmm, I'd have kept the whole Mazda and used that instead of gluing its lights to the blue thing, but each to their own..
Then, a little further down the screen, he wrote:Exhaust is Stainless Steel, therefore should never need to be replaced
Someone clearly never made the mistake of buying a "stainless" system from Fister Rimmer Brothers then. I say stainless, in fact their systems come with mild steel end plates, brackets and internal baffles, only the pipework and silencer wraps are anywhere close to stainless and even these won't last longer than four or five years, but that's irrelevant as the endplates on my Dolomite's Rimmer Bros system were already holed after one year on the road and that in an area where no salt is used and on a car that's otherwise rust free to this day.

Conclusion: Mazda MX5s are really good cars, buy one of those and save yourself the heartache.

Keep on searching mate, Mazda made loads of the the things so it should be possible to find that well preserved and usable specimen. That said, a pal of mine has been looking for a good Bongo since 2015 and even the very expensive ones at specialist dealers' premises seem to suffer from very nasty rust at some point, even when lightly used and well looked after. He wants a 1996-1998 one for some reason, but will probably end up going mad before he finds one to suit his needs.

Just a thought; have you joined an MX5 forum? There seem to be a couple and maybe being a member would help you to find the right car?

 How much? I didn't realise that these MR2s were so cheap! Buy both and that way, if the alternator should fail on one, just bury it in your garden and use the other.
Much as I love all things Toyota, I can't help but feel that an MX5 would be far easier to mend, which would offset the extra initial cost eventually as you'd spend more time being a builder and less time replacing parts that are squashed into a tiny space between rear bulkhead and engine on the mid engined Toyota..
:scared:
Or go super cheap and grab an MG TF that needs some work.

 Maybe ask GHT for a loan? I suggest this because he asked an MG question and you discovered that the answer is a bright orange SD1, which surely qualifies you for a finder's fee, or does it not work like that? ;)
The car certainly looks good but, much as I appreciate an orange motor vehicle, I can't help but think that the factory option of black suited the SD1 shape better than most other shades and, as the steering wheel appears to be in the wrong place, the price should, IMHO, be reduced by around 87% .

I've never seen an orange SDI before, in fact I'm pretty sure that orange wasn't a colour they were available in. Does really suit the car though I think, though those who know me well will agree that having owned and driven a bright orange car for the last few decades I might be a tad biased!!! This looks to be painted Ford "asbo" orange, as used on that hot Focus they brought out a few years back (I don't know the proper name of the colour, always used the top gear name), far better than the stock BL orange at the time called "blaze". My wee beast has always been orange but in truth it would have been the last colour I'd have picked had I bought it new. Certainly I think that the colour suits the SDI better than the "bond bug" orange of my Kitten....... Very useful in supermarket car parks though - despite the wee car being dwarfed by even modern superminis, I never have difficulty finding it!

The only thing good to say about the SD1 is that it's power unit is the famous Buick V8. The police loved them, and didn't they give birth to what we all know as the jam sandwich?

The Rover P6 was always going to be a hard act to follow, in aesthetic terms the SD1 just doesn't cut the mustard. I had a P6 company car in the mid to late 70's, I loved it. When it was due for replacement I knew it would be the SD1, so I tried every tactic that I could to get a different car. I wound up with the aircraft carrier known as The Citroen CX estate wotsit. Three rows of seats, it wallowed like a battleship and you needed a hanger to garage it.

On a totally different note, I saw my first ever Tesla electric car in the flesh yesterday. in the flesh being the operative word. Just after photographing it, yummy mummy turned up wearing a tennis like mini skirt. She leaned into the car treating me to a shapely pair of buttocks. I thought she had forgotten to put her knickers on until I caught a glimpse of a sliver of white, then I realised that she must have been wearing those cheese cutter knickers that they call thongs.

I texted my Godson to tell him about the experience, adding that I looked away in case I got dubbed a dirty old man. He texted back: "What do you think that big reflective sunglasses were invented for?"

From MG TFs to thongs, via an orange Reliant and a very loud Rover.. Only here, on Practically Classics, could this happen. I was having a crappy day before I logged in. Not any more. GHT, you deserve some thong-related information:
