Calling Classic British Car Owners!

#1 Post by VoltageTV » Wed Jan 20, 2016 12:00 pm

Hi All,

My name is Jordan. I'm a television producer over at Voltage TV working on a brand new car show which looks to celebrate great British cars. A big part of the show will look to talk to the owners, the enthusiasts and collectors of Rovers, Lotus', Jaguars, Land Rovers, Minis and all the other British greats.

We’re looking to speak to people who love their cars who would also be interested in sharing their motors with the nation. If you’d like to find out a little bit more, let us know your name, number and why you’d like to be on the show. Please email Cars@Voltage.TV and we’ll be in touch.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers,
Jordan

Jordan, my name is Robert, forgive my cynicism, but it always comes across that classic car owners will see the word: "television," and think fame. There are even those who will pay silly money, to have their car placed on a register, in the forlorn hope that their car will be the next Jaguar, or similar, to appear in something like the Inspector Morse series. It doesn't happen, further more, classic car owners, far from being paid, are expected to pick up the tab to run or ferry their car to the filming location.

If you are honest and sincere about your posting, let us know if you would, at least assure us, that if we should be interested, we wouldn't be out of pocket. It's not a big ask but experience has proved it usually meets with a stony silence.

I've noticed this post on another forum and again doesn't seem to have had a reply.
people are sceptical about posting details of cars etc in case of thefts etc.
I appreciate if you have a TV idea then you may want to play your cards close to the chest but to be honest I wouldn't want my garage and it's contents advertised on TV.

Looks like you are right Murray. After looking up http://voltage.tv/ I couldn't find any reference to Jordan. That's not to say that he is not what he says he is, or that Voltage TV are charlatans, but if I had put out those postings on various forums I would at least have the decency of going back to check, as well as answer any queries. That way you do reassure people.

Hello all,

Apologies for me not replying to this post sooner- I've been looking after other parts of the show which required my attention.

Apologies that this has caused concern; let me try to put everyone at ease.

I'm a freelancer so my name doesn't appear on the Voltage website (maybe some day but not yet) but if you wish to email me directly please do; jordan.livermore@voltage.tv.

Yes, Robert, you're absolutely right. Any person or car who we'd ensure wouldn't be left out of pocket. We'll explain what exactly the show involves way ahead of any shoot so people are happy.

Murray, yup- this post has been trotted about on other forums. This is a very big series and as a result we're looking to include a lot of cars. Despite the lack of replies on here and other forums we've had a surprisingly big response from people who have emailed in.

We've also had time to discuss all the episodes and have outlines about what car fits where. As a result we're looking for enthusiastic owners to appear on the show. We may want to film you and your car depending on how we're going to produce the episode.

This isn't an exhaustive list - just the cars & owners we're very keen on featuring right now. We're filming a fair few episodes so bear with me *deep breath*.

Oi! I heard that. Now you might think that I'm an old crusty, and you are probably right, there was a list in the papers about the six most popular singers in the UK in 2015. At the top was Adele, I've heard the name but wouldn't have a clue what she looked like. After hearing part of that funereal dirge called Skyfall, I'm amazed that she could get a gig singing in her local church. The next was Ed Sheeran (I think) had to Google that, I thought he was a footballer, I can't remember the rest, because I had never heard of them.
But I'm not a lover of the sixties, my teenage years, spare me that. Like cars, I like the real thing. Now if you think that granddad was all straight laced and big band well, yes, but you know, you can get a young lady in your car and if she plays her cards right. This will make her eyes water. (OK I've cracked that joke before.)

As for American cars, well I know you all like to take the p*ss out of my attire, but even you lot draw the line at older cars, I've heard it said you quite like them.
