Car lifts
Re: Car lifts
Ive got a 4 post lift I use just for this purpose, mine was secondhand, and is bolted to the 6" thick reinforced slab the garage stands on, I put my elan on top so oil drips are inevitable.

any chance you could measure from the ramp (under the wheels) to the ceiling when lifted for me?kstrutt1 wrote:Ive got a 4 post lift I use just for this purpose, mine was secondhand, and is bolted to the 6" thick reinforced slab the garage stands on, I put my elan on top so oil drips are inevitable.

Re: Car lifts
I have a 2 post at my hobby shop. If you had a choice between the two, I would go for a 2 post over a 4 post as a 4 post limits you to storage, transmission and exhaust work. If you want to do suspension work and have enough room to swing a hammer then a 2 post is about 10 times more versatile.

Hi
It is worth remembering that in comercial service lifting devices (this is one) are Examined Frequently (as 6 monthly) for a purpose. Attention should be paid to any Cables, especially for fraying. and their connections for example. Latches should operate properly. Wear on pulley wheels is also a potential issue, Whilst not my discipline, (I was a pressure vessel surveyor), I had enough reason to be aware of the need to inspect frequently.
