Car SOS.
Re: Car SOS.
Is it classic car heresy to admit that I don't like, nor watch, Car SOS?
Just one program put me off. Couldn't make my mind up if that bloke
called: "TIM," was his name or an acronym for: Time is Money!
And whilst in confession mood, I have only ever seen one episode of:
Top Gear. It was in 2002, or there abouts, one of the presenters was
a bloke called Jason Dawe. It was the show where Sir Michael Gambon
nearly turned a car over.
There's an expression that I overheard back in the 1960's by one
Manfred Mann. He was appearing with his band: The Manfreds.
They had just released that song with the grammatically
appealing title: "Do Wah Diddy!"
Commenting on the song to a journalist, he described it as:
"More trash for the masses." Manfred Mann should have
presented Top Gear. I couldn't have described it better myself.
But if either of those two programs float your boat, take no notice
of this old curmudgeon, it speaks volumes that the only program
that I enjoy, involving older cars, is the one of Richard Wilson, alias
Victor Meldrew, driving around the country in old classics, going by
a route taken from an AA map, from a time when motoring was a
pleasure.

Re: Car SOS.
I suppose it's a matter of horses for courses, I quite like SOS as there are more times when Fuzz comes up with sensible advice than Tim doing something really annoying. I suppose it would get rather boring if it was all about Fuzz cutting panels off and welding new ones in - Tim's bits are more to make a break from the "repetition" rather than being something deep and meaningful! I think even the most enthusiastic of us would soon get bored of watching someone weld patches or panels - or strip each individual head bolt off an engine - so the "pause" is acceptable and gives a break between one part of the resto and another.
To be fair, some of TIm's jaunts are interesting!! The ones where he goes to the upholstery place and gets seats fixed (or wood dash boards re-laminated) do show some techniques some of us haven't tried (or have failed badly when trying them!).
I feel a little sorry for Fuzz - he is working with a friend and we are all saying how annoying his friend is! Mind you, I still reckon Phil is THE star of the show!!
I watch TG, but I am old enough to realise that it was not about cars, more of a comedy show about three blokes who like to look at expensive cars and drive like idiots! More of a "Men Behaving Badly" with cars. I will be watching the "special cobbled up last episode" tomorrow, but I won't be heartbroken if I don't - it certainly isn't the best car programme - or comedy programme - on TV!
Edit - I got the day wrong!!!

Aron, your link wants me to install something and that something wants me to open it in wine, so I'm off to unscrew a nice cheap Aussie red.
