The Pike Factory

Ladies, gentlemen

Can anyone tell me why Nissan called its special car manufacturing plant - the one that made the Figaro - The Pike Factory?
Nissan's GB press office didn't know the answer, and there is no explanation anywhere online (plenty about the Pike Factory, but not its name). Office suggestions have included a Dad's Army connection, Japan's love of eating ugly fish, and a Japlish mistranslation.
A completely worthless prize awaits the most plausible, preferably correct, answer.

Well, Longbridge also had a "Pike" factory so, whatever the reason, Datsun weren't the only ones to think of it and it's Midlandish as well as Japanese.
I know that won't answer your question, but at least it may cause further confusion. :D

I think you'll find that Longbridge's Pike Factory was so-called because it was built by a company called White & Pike... although you'd have thought it would have been called the White & Pike Factory.
