My first car was a MK1 Escort 1.3 2 door that I was given by my Cousin- That gives you an idea of the state it was in. I was about 14 at the time and was planning to restore it but ended up breaking it and selling the parts.

First "proper legal" car was a light blue 1250 Hillman Avenger 4 door - I fitted a 1.6 lump out of a Sunbeam S with twin CD 175 strombergs, pancake filters and a performance exhaust system: Up to 65 mph it would leave all my mates cars standing - the benefit of having the original 1250 diff fitted.

80 was flat out and it drunk fuel - the downside of having the original 1250 diff fitted...

Leant it too a mate who "parked" it in a ditch after a few shandies.

If there was a thread on the old site I probably posted this before... 1993, I was 18.

Mine was a Mk 1 fiesta bought for 80 quid from my uncle in 1990, 6 months tax and test left on it - god knows how cos front suspension turrett was rotted throgh most of way round it. it was a two tone green, dunno if it was a standard colour - dark green on top, mint green on the bottom. I painted it all over with paint meant for coaches/buses with a paint brush. Finish would have been good if it wasn't for the fact it was outside and a hot summer's evening. Next day there were about 6 million midges embedded in it, which i spent the next few weeks picking out.

Got me moved to university though. started every time, any weather till the clutch went and i still sold it for 70 quid. Only thing to go wrong in the meantime was exhaust pipe broke on the junction to the back box (fixed with the landlords' hoover pipe and gun gum) and the winscreen wiper motor went. A Tenner for 6 months motoring - bargain!
Eyup!
