Ah, so you're the same persons. Thought it was a heck of a coincidence. Not that it would have been the first this year as a yellow one ended up on its roof recently in a ditch, precisely three miles away from the location of a fatal collision involving the owner of another.

Glad to hear that you are ok... I had Meriva on loan last year for a week and the view past the (two!) front pillars was dreadful, I wouldn't buy one for just that reason... Must say that although the ones on my Mk6 Golf are thick, you still have a good view, it's just certain cars that suffer, usually those with a sort of "double" pillar like the Meriva...

So sorry to hear of your crash and the loss of your Triumph.

The pillars on my Pathfinder are similarly annoyingly intrusive. The screen is also more raked back than the Trooper it replaced, which only compunds the problem. :x

Bad luck on the crash mate, but at least you made it out in one piece - says a lot for our "old, unsafe" cars eh?

I've been stuck behind numpties pulling out in SUVs/MPVs a lot recently, and it's occured to me that one of the reasons they've been doing this is that they have no clue someone's behind them. The absolute worst offender had BOTH wing mirrors smashed beyond usefulness, and no way to use the interior mirror because the rear centre headrest was blocking it - and on top of this they were on the phone, hand-free in more ways than one as she was a "hand talker" so was flinging her arms around the cab & tossing her head in the classic "oh no they di-unt" manner, rather than trying to observe the road around her.

the other offender is people not bothering to use there indicators this is down two one driver cant be bothered to indicate or indicators on modern cars dont work ???
i ve driven modern cars and even i forgot to indicator because its on wrong side which becomes more differcult when changing gear and indicating which you can do both on classics because is on the right side not the left

I think it boils down to people not giving a damn about anyone else.

I think the indicator issue is not so much classic and modern, so much as British and foreign (Though what current British cars are like I know not.....there aren't that many). British cars had the stalks on the right (ie Offside) and foreign cars had them on the left (Offside in a LHD car). I expect they just used the same steering columns and switches for LHD & RHD vehicles.

I think the indicator issue is down to plain bloody idleness plus a generous dash of "I'm within the speed limit so can do no wrong".

That's exactly why the indicators used to be that way around, and it's down to the prevalence of LHD and the laziness of manufacturers that we have to suffer with them on the wrong side nowadays.

This is what I love about my Lexus; being an older Japanese car, the indicators are on the "right" side! Unfortunately, even my S3 Allegro has them on the wrong side... I barely use it nowadays though, so overall I'm using the switches on the same side in every daily car.
