New 185/55/13 tyres @ Vintage Tyres

Know of a good garage, mechanic, sprayer, supplier in your area? Why not post their details here. Please only post if you have actually used and received good service from this person or place AS A CUSTOMER. Also if you can put the area in the title that will be helpful - when we have enough we'll separate them into Counties / Shires. Note: this is for private members' recommendations, NOT owner/proprietors to punt their businesses - these will be removed.

New 185/55/13 tyres @ Vintage Tyres

#1 Post by MG Mal » Sat Jan 21, 2012 10:44 am

The Metro Owners Club as well as myself have been contacting various suppliers to find out what can be done about the limited (read almost none) supply of the various sizes of tyres specific to Metro's.

One of these lines of enquiry has led to the following email being received from Vintage Tyres.
It looks like we might have limited numbers of a 185/55R13 Camac in stock within a month or so.
Initial supplies are limited, so if you know someone who needs them get them to email to add their name to the list now!

Vintage Tyre Supplies Limited
Registered Office:
National Motor Museum,
Beaulieu,
Brockenhurst
Hampshire SO42 7ZN
Registered Number 723112

I understand this size of tyre may also have been used on Mk1 and Mk2 Fiesta's and possibly a few other cars of the period.

If you are aware of any other car that uses them, and have contacts within the relevent clubs please let tham know.

If we want to keep this chance of a limited but hopefuly continuous supply of this size, and the possability of other sizes coming available, those who have cars with this size of tyre please contact Vintage tyres direct via the address above.

The greater number of people who take up there offer the better chance we will have of them sourceing more of this size, and possibly other sizes in the future.

Charlie @ Vintage Tyres, has stated that they are hopeing for a "Pre Vat Price" of Under £50 per tyre.

My thanks to the Metro Owners club for there effort's, and long may they continue to keep them up, as it helps all owners not just club members. (as is there aim)

Mal.

Which Metros used these? I can remember the first ones coming with 135/82%x12s or 155/70%x12s, then the later ones with the Metric TDs but haven't met one with 13s.

Mk1 Metro Turbo's had 13" alloys as standard, and were fitted wit 165/60/13 Dunlop SP Sports.

MK2 Metro's Fitted with 5.5 x 13 Cross-Spoke /Lattice design alloy wheels where factory fitted as standard with 185 55 13 tyres.

These alloys were originally for the late Mk2 Metro Turbo model, but were a dealer option as well on all late Mk2's

Early Mk3 "Rover Metro" models also used these tyres for the first few years.

Below is a picture of an Early Mk2 Metro turbo fitted with Late Mk2 Lattice / Cross Spoke alloys fitted with 185/55/13 Pirelli tyres.

Toyo did 185/55/13 up until recently. However, I've heard they only make a small number in the beginning of the year and then the national stock becomes very scarce by the end of the same year.
