So, then onto the dashboards lights:
1) Remove the dash.

2) Remove the guage console from the case & drill a lil' ole hole for the wires to exit:

3) Stick the run of LED's here:

Which makes them 'invisible' once the case is turned the right way up.

5) Refit the guages, the console & wire the LED's into a suitable feed. I used the clocks light live & earth. This means that they will come on with the day run lights as the old bulbs would.

Once again I let the 'red' slip away from me. Hadn't really noticed until I saw another red one on another forum. Tank was pink :o :lol:

So I am starting to bring back the red 8-) Still got the nearside, tailgate and the roof to go.
So far:

I used :
1) Ecauto Shampoo
2) Clean Plus 'Lack Reiniger' (a 'paint restorer' which I guess is a 'cutting agent')
3) Ecauto Power Polish
Then after an hour or so,
4) Colonite 476
5) Linseed Oil on the 'black bits'

Red always seems to be a bugger as it ages, but that has fetched it back nicely.

Ever since replacing the cambelt and auxiliary belts, one of the alternator belts keeps somehow working loose & then starts squealing :twisted: Try as I might, I just couldn't get it to stay tight enough. In desparation, the other day when 'my' mobile mec' popped by I asked him to take a look. Straight away he said that the belts were the wrong size & were sitting too low in the pullies. He explained that it is the sides of v-belts were they 'grip' & that the teeth are there only to disperse crud & dust. The belts I'd fitted were 9.5mm pukker Volvo jobs.
Being me I had the old belts still. I got them out to find that they were 10mm! Contitech, ones I fitted in probably 2007.
So I contacted the Volvo parts supplier who confirmed that he had supplied the correct belts as Volvo only ever fitted the 9.5mm ones on 240's. There is no other Volvo option. He did though, kindly offer a refund if I wished.
I decided that I must try a set of 10mm, so have ordered some from GSF. They are on route.
Anyhoo' I was getting fed up with the squealing & yesterday I decided to refit the old Contitechs. Result was that both belts tightened & all is now quiet. The Conti's are not particularly badly worn, just past their 'sell by' date. So not in a major rush to fit the GSF ones, though I will do when I have a spare hour or so.

Finally, the 9.5 Volvo ones after only say, 1000 miles : Image

Maybe the pullies become wider with wear, or was it because I fitted 10mm (supplied by Braydons Volvo Specialists) which have worn the pulley grooves wider :?: Funny though that all the aftermarket suppliers I tried supply only 10mm belts.

MOT, well 2-yearly Controle-Technique this morning. Went straight through with a compliment on how good Tank is from M. Le Testeur!

Advisories:
1) DISQUE DE FREIN: Presence de corps gras (ARD ARG) Not sure on this as direct translation is "Rear Discs presence of a fatty body" :lol: - Will have to ask on the frenchy forum.
2) Play in steering wheel at full lock. Another weird one?
3) Minor play in steering rack
4) Dipped too low
5) Headlamp reflectors deteriorating ( Quelle surprise!)
6) Front tyres wearing very slightly on inner edges (he reckoned this tied in the play in steering rack).
7) Surface rust 'underneath rear'.
8) Battery not correctly fitted (checked on this one and that bit of plastic that 'locks' it in place has gone awol:lightning: .
9) Engine oil leak
10) Gearbox oil leak
11) Differential oil leak.

Nice work on Tank, I haven't heard of linseed oil for the black plastic parts before, did you also use it on the bumpers

If so i will give this a try on my car

Yeah, peanut butter works too. Neither lasts for ever though.

Thanks! Okay the presence of a fatty body, is some grease on the discs. Wether that's a leak of some sort.... Mind obviously not enough to make the brakes fail the test.

Yes the Linseed Oil was used on the bumpers too. I use it on the 850 too. I find it needs doing about twice or three times a year over here.
