Work is progressing slowly but steadily.

The exhaust is non existent so I bought a stainless version, but the club doesn't have the front downpipe section and it's on backorder. So for now the solution was to take the downpipe from my dads saloon, which now might make him finally fit the stainless system I bought for it....in 2004! Once stainless downpipes become available I can buy one and fit it but for now it gets the car running.

Front brakes are all rebuilt. Shoes were like new apparently so just new cylinders needed. The rear was similar except one hub seal was leaking so I've ordered a replacement pair, might as well do them both together. Once that arrives the rear brakes will go together and the master cylinders have been cleaned and rebuilt.

Carburetor is still being cleaned, apparently it's pretty gummed up but once it is cleaned it is being rebuild with new gaskets etc. At that point the car can be run longer and see if the clutch will free off. Fingers crossed the engine doesn't need to be removed.

I was going to buy new tyres, but a club member sold me a nearly new set for what 1 new would cost so it was a no brainer.

Got an accessory, adds at least 5hp!

My brother has been hard at work cleaning up the cylinders and carburettor, he really is OCD! I said he only needs to get it good enough to run, but he just can't leave alone (and I am grateful)

This is the thermostat

The big spring was underneath the thermostat! I assume they were trying to hold it open for some reason?!

I had already planned for a replacement, but will be adding a housing to the list:

Got the old tyres off, in the process of painting before fitting new tyres:

Tow bar was removed over the weekend as the standard exhaust won;t fit with it on. I don't know what they did before as there was no exhaust system on it when we got the car but the hitch was rusty and ugly, so it's a win/win.

Fuel pump is cleaned and rebuilt.

Took the fuel tank out to attempt to clean it:

But the mission was aborted when it is clear that the tank is on its last legs, if not leaking already. You can get aluminium ones fabricated so I am ordering one.

The fuel float corroded through too, and you can't just purchase a replacement float which is annoying as the sender works just fine. I'm trying to look for a generic float and arm that I can modify, the other option is to JB weld the corroded float.

If anyone knows where I can get a generic plastic float and arm, let me know!

Float - you can try Morris Minor and Mini suppliers, they're fairly generic, but not quite like that one. Failing that, you could open up yours and fill it with cork?
Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.
