Eddypecks 1986 Golf GTI

#1 Post by eddypeck » Fri Jul 03, 2015 12:53 pm

So if you've seen my BMW post. This is my other one, I bought it in June 2013 and it's been an ongoing rolling project since. I'll try and summarise.

Bought for £500 in not the best of conditions, but with a full 12 months MOT and all original. Which means a good honest car, all be it a tiered one. At least I don't have to deal with hidden surprises or previous owner bodges and cover ups.

Body work got some attention, and partial paint. The rest of the original paint was restored by a good friend who really knows how to work magic with old tired paint work.

Interior, got stripped and deep cleaned. Applied Yacht varnish to the back of the door cards for protection, waterproofing, strengthening and added durability.

The worn drivers seat got repaired with the donor material from a decent passenger seat

I treated the leather steering wheel

reapplied the trims and dressed the plastics

Had a small electrical fire !!!

And broke down countless times

Which brings me to where I am now...

With the car in the local tuners, thankfully an old school Bosch specialist. Where the main components of the K-jet continuous injection system have been reconditioned and are being fitted and set up. The Mk2 Golf Owners Club Annual Meet is just a week away, the garage have had the car since February and I'm now panicking as it's touch and go if it will be ready in time.

Eddy, I've edited this to put a carriage return ("Enter") between each picture, otherwise they just display next to each other horizontally, so the reader has to scroll about a mile to the right to see them all.

Cheers!

The car in the advert Rich posted has John's initials (and age) on it's plate.
It's a smart looking golf. You have two already, how long before you have fore (sorry, i'll get my coat)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

I was wondering the same thing myself ;) , the simple answer is nothing yet, but stay with us and you'll soon be wondering what day it is and why you woke up in the boot of a K10 Micra on the sea front at Pittodrie wearing someone else's clothes and smelling strongly of fish. Or maybe that only happens to me..
Thanks, Rich, I must have watched that ad a few dozen times, just in case they'd secretly made a rude version, but had never spotted the plate. Oi, Terry, I'm not quite that ancient. :P

I do appreciate a nice MK2 and that one looks very nice indeed.
