1953 Jowett Jupiter
So there I was making plans to reduce the classic fleet (and succeeded for a short period when I sold the Jag) but then I was asked to evaluate a Jupiter - sad story really, the car was fully restored 25 years ago and has done relatively little mileage since but was actively used by its owner until he became too ill to enjoy the car or do anything to it six years ago. The car has sat in a garage since, with the owner now in the care of a nursing home the family were unsure of how & where to sell the car. I initially advised of the various options but they were keen that the car went to good home and was retained within the club rather than end up in the hands of a dealer / auction house - so to cut to the chase I offered market value for the car.
The layup has not been kind to the cosmetics - the paint has seen better days and all of the chrome will require replating The seat should come good with a hide food And the carpets just require a clean- Attachments

The hood is like new and has barely been used One piece bonnet on the Jupiter allows ready access to everything at the front 1500cc boxer engine - alloy crankcase, cast iron heads mated to a four speed gearbox which is column change and drive train to the rear axle Chassis is tubular steel (originally derived from ERA) - front bulkhead is steel has is the inner rear bulkhead but then all outer panels are aluminium.

There is a lot of play in the steering column which will require sorting Battery box is behind the seat and let into the floor The only luggage area is this well that is behind the seat (very late models did have a boot)

Once again showing my extreme lack of knowledge about Jowletts but that bonnet is amazing and I love the dash. Is it a veneer or solid wood?

Re: 1953 Jowett Jupiter
Plan for the car is recommission it over winter, check the brakes, give it a good going through - strip the carbs - engine is free and I don't think it will take too much to get it running. I will clean the paint / chrome work up for now and use the car over next summer, whilst I gather parts together for the cosmetic restoration which will include a full paint job.
Really nice thing is that it has come with continuous ownership history from new with the old logbooks and it makes me owner number 12, there is file that is over 6" thick of various invoices & written details - add to this that its an all matching numbers car - so in all I feel very humbled in taking ownership of it. I will start to gather the parts for the recommissioning but wont get anything done to it for while - there is a certain Jowett Javelin that requires finishing first

Lovely car and though there's some sadness to the story it's good to know for the previous owner that it's definitely with the right person to keep it as it should be kept.
