Welcome, I remember these (or the vauxhaul version) being on every street, can't remember the last time I saw one though, great to see one being preserved.

<<<< Yes! What he said. These were a most pleasant thing to drive. I won't bore you with how the (1.3S) one that I borrowed to travel from Leeds over the 55 to Blackpool one weekend with friends back in the mid '80s had a very optimistic speedometer. It read 130+mph all the way there and all the way back but the very nice Polis who stopped us on the return leg said that I had only really been driving the poor thing at 120ish. She didn't believe it either, so she let us on our way  . Do not try that these days, it's wrong, dangerous and very, very naughty.

I was driving a 2.0 gtdi galaxy at 140 mph ( indicated) a few weeks ago, mind you it was in Germany where it is perfectly legal, and not considered a major safety issue ( their autobahn accident rate is broadly similar to ours) dare I suggest it is our lawmakers which don't know what they are doing ;)

They're an amazingly capable car. Even this one with a 4 speed cruises nicely at full motorway speed with plenty of grunt for overtaking. It's a very sure footed design.

Just read your thread on the forum and I watched your YouTube video on the wiper spindle replacement. The cars are basically the same as the Mk1 Astra.

They just different badges Toledo man. Otherwise, Kadett D is the same as a MK1 Astra Toledo Man.

One of my Triumph friends has restored a Mk 1 Astra. The restoration thread is HERE on another forum which I frequent (I'm also a moderator on that forum). He also posts on the MK1 Astra Owners Club forum. I've just found his resto thread HERE on that forum. As you can see from my sig below, my modern car is also an Astra.

I've decided to have a go at keeping a video diary of work I do on my vehicles, posting a new one every Friday. Starting with work on Gina the Orange Kadett D Mk1 Astra https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... krk6lcb_68
