My 1968 Rover P6 S1 Three Thousand Five! A Refreshtoration!!
Re: My 1968 Rover P6 S1 Three Thousand Five! A Refreshtorati
It's an arse when people mix paint incorrectly. I had problems with the mog's respray about 12 years ago when the garage painting it made the car much too green. Fortunately they re-did it at no extra charge.

The new mix of paint is on its way to wayne.
We will then see how good a match it is,and to be honest as long as its pretty close it will do!
They have had 24hrs to get it right!
Previously painted panels will have to be re-done over this weekend before starting on the remaining 12.
No chance of getting them all done by end of next week,as it will take 4 oven loads for primer and paint due to quantity and size, but hopefully they will be done just in time for the show on the 14/15th June!
The main thing is that,"hopefully" it will be done for the annual Southern Rover P6 club meet at Blenheim in Aug!

The factor's "recipe book" should allow for that, anyway. That said, sometimes the primer/undercoat colour can have a significant effect on the top coatPilkie wrote: Maybe they should start with black and tint it green!
Its a black green rather than a green GREEN

Looking smart
What paint have you used on your rocker covers? I used VHT silver on mine last year and it has come off in big flakes.

Hoping you can make it to Shepton Mallet in a couple of weeks, I would like to see the car up close. Sadly mine won't be ready for yet another year but only by a couple of weeks (which is more annoying)!!

Without wanting to teach you how to paint, its all in the prep!
Getting ALL the grease off is paramount!
I stripped my rockers, elbows, inlet etc with nitromors,2 doses needed!
Stripped it all off,and then gave them a good wash in water, then a going over with a wire brush attachment in a drill.
Washed thoroughly in thinners, then gave them a good key all over with rubbing paper, and washed again.
Left to dry overnight, then a quick wipe down with a cloth just damp with thinners before painting.
Lay them on a flat surface, dont hang them up!
Started with a mist coat all over, working my way round both of them,so 1st coat is slightly tacky ready for 2nd pass.
I did it till I was happy with the finish.
Ive used a product thats used on Avro aero engines,"And Massey Furguson Tractors" and came from LAS Aerospace Ltd at about £10 per 400ml can of Lycoming grey.
I hope it lasts, only time will tell!
jpsh120.
Look forward to meeting you at Shepton.
I plan to be there both days, and normally manage to park by the side door in the main carpark.
If I cant use the S1,I will be in the S2,or the TR6 if the weathers good.
