Hi thought I would add some pictures and the progress of a Herald we are restoring.
Its showing 17,000 miles which I doubt is genuine but it has been off the road since 1990 and the lady has owned it since 1978 so may be correct.
Its one of the early ones being a GE3***CV Chassis number

A mate of mine restored a similar car quite a few years ago. His was Valencia blue. He did all the welding and spraying himself. He was struggling to get the bulkhead and body tub lined up correctly on the chassis and ended up throwing the towel in and put it on eBay. When he rolled it out of the garage and saw it from a distance he realized where he was going wrong but by then he was past the point of no return. He spent a fortune on parts so whoever bought the car got a bargain.
Is this going to be a "body off" restoration? I doesn't look too bad but once you start digging a bit deeper...

I think I'd quite like to do a Herald or Vitesse next

Good plan that man, I've never seen a bright orange one but the image is so easy to conjure up in the mind that it has to be made reality. I've driven a few 13/60s and can totally understand the appeal, not having had a car that would turn in the width of the road since the last kitten I drove on a daily basis moved away to stay with someone else.mach1rob wrote:I think I'd quite like to do a Herald or Vitesse next
The Dolly, at 27 feet between kerbs, came close in the tight lock stakes but a Herald is right up there with kitten, Fox, HA Viva, Imp and black cab for man-hoover-ability. Damn that spellchecking widget....
I still have spare suspension, steering and brake parts for small, chassis-mounted Triumphs - a leftover from my many Rebels and Rebel-based projects. If only the kitten had stuck with Triumph front suspension, there'd be twice as many left by now.

I wish I had a Herald turning circle instead of the approx. 37 feet I have to make do with in the Princess.
Looks a nice starting point, not often you see them in Doom Blue, but the colour suits the shape rather nicely.

I've never heard Sapphire referred to as Doom Blue before. I'll probably assimilate that term into my own paint-related vocabulary from this point onward. Please tell me that Standard-Triumph used cellulose rather than vodka in their paintshops!

Try doing parking into tight spaces with a series 3 109. That has the turning circle of the QE2vulgalour wrote:I wish I had a Herald turning circle instead of the approx. 37 feet I have to make do with in the Princess.

Landrovers and Welding go together like Bread and Butter. And in the wet they are about as structurally sound
