Upon returning home I found a slight weep of coolant down the nearside inner wing, cause being a bodge on a heater pipe from previous ownership This was hidden under the horn / radiator so had gone undetected - quick trip to the motor factors to source a new heater hose and this was sorted. I adjusted the carbs again but noticed that the engine was quite clattery from the top end - so I checked the tappets the following morning when the engine was cold Far easier to set tappets on a Javelin with the road wheel off - sure enough there were a couple of them that didn't even carry a gap but number 3 exhaust (normally set at 0.006") you could have drove a bus through the gap - with both sides set and the car back on the ground a further road test was undertaken and she fly's along. Just the headlights to sort - we have a rally in the Netherlands coming up at the end of the month - our ferry leaves Harwich at 23:15 so some night driving is required and the headlamps are currently circa 3 x candle power - the car is still positive earth and on British pre focus bulbs but I have noticed that direct replacement LED bulbs for this fitting are now coming available - they are not cheap - but cheaper that running into a lamppost with 3 x candle power bulbs !!

Sorted the headlights last night - could not get LED bulbs but managed to find a source of halogen on a British pre focus fitting so in they went - now I have never really driven the car at night - so never used the headlights - and I waited until dusk to set the alignment up against the garage wall - but something was quite odd - soon worked it out though - at some stage someone had taken the N/S headlight out - when refitting it they had crossed the bullet connectors so when the O/S headlamp was on dipped beam the N/S was on main beam and therefore when the O/S was on main the N/S went to dipped - All done - final check over and we are good to go on Thursday - Home to Watford to join up with fellow club members then off to Harwich for the ferry.

have you a guide for setting up the headlights? I need to do the Singers alignment although it already has halogen bulbs fitted.
i dont drive much at night but did notice that when out at night last season I was doing a great job of illuminating the tree tops! lol

And a quick update on this one - Keith in my absence (busy with the day job) had rebuilt the rear suspension and sorted the misalignment of the rear axle out prior to Goodwood Revival - where the car disgraced its self by breaking down (might has well admit it has GHT has already grassed me up in another thread) - it appears to be fuel starvation - other than fit a new fuel pump (which made no difference) I have not had the chance to look at it - again another car that is relegated to outside parking - again much to my shame - battery has stopped holding charge so the car in general is ready for a fair few hours TLC - just need to find the few hours - it on the list I promise ! (has is the unfitted kitchen which is sat piled up & untouched in the lounge since May - the fit out of the workshop - new drainage to side of the house - ensuite bathroom - main bathroom - rest of the house - early Javelin restoration - 52 Jowett Javelin - 73 Rover 3500 - 37 Jowett 8 etc etc)

Slightly off topic, I have a 1988 Mk2 Golf GTI that has a Jowett Car Club sticker in the back window. I'm only the 5th owner and through the documentation I got with it have a record of all the previous 5 owners. I wonder which one was the Jowett owner?

Sorry didn't make that clear, apart from the last previous owner (and I know it's not him) where the address is on the V5 I've only got names, no contact details.

The original owner (got his details somewhere but not to hand) sold to Sally Hobbs
Sally Hobbs to Peter Lund
Peter Lund then passed ownership to a female Lund, wife or daughter?
Who sold it Matthew, who is the last registered keeper before me.

If you send the DVLA a completed V888 and a fiver, they will give you the full details of all the previous registered keepers.

HUJ was returned to the road in time for the Jowett Car Clubs National Rally last weekend at Tewksbury - after some faf in resolving the missing and farting issue - it was realised that once we had it running the automatic advance / retard on the distributor was amiss - took the said distributor apart to find that the weights has disengaged their selves - reattached and the engine ran very sweetly - not one to chance them disengaging again I sent the distributor off for a rebuild - refitted / timed up returned the car to the road.

I had a check round - greased all the points up - adjusted the front brakes - changed the oil & filter and gave her a good clean up - no one would know that she has been sat outside with the elements since last September - done 250 miles of very nice driving since - just such a great little car and so much fun to drive
