Aston Martin AMV8 FINISHED PROJECT
Aston Martin AMV8 FINISHED PROJECT
I am currently carrying out a rebuild on an Aston Martin V8 Oscar India and thought you might like to see some photos of the progress. If anyone is interested I could start a little blog and keep you posted to its progress. Without further delay here is the car in question.......

Sadly I have no before photos but the car has just had an extremely costly bodily rebuild and professional re-spray, I am currently in the rebuild stage, refurbishing as I go. I have replaced nearly every nut bolt and washer under the bonnet with stainless, every bracket has been either replaced or blasted and zinc coated, the underside has had lots of attention, painstakingly removing all traces of the old under-seal prior to treatment with rust converter / proof, Red oxide, zinc primer and a modern stone chip coating.
I am currently restoring the interior and hoping to get it refitted within the next week or so, so a steady stream of photo's are on the way.
It is a stunning car and the colour suits it down to the ground. When this one is finished, we have a trio of other Astons awaiting similar treatment but I have a body off rebuild on a 1972 Triumph TR6 to finish first.

I think these are my favourite Astons as far as looks go - though the Volante is nice too. It's a shame they are the wrong era to go with the tractors (both firms were sold when the banks got worried about David Brown's loan after Rolls Royce went under), but there again, without blowing the inheritance, I can't even afford a rough one!
I see the major fault with them though: in the bottom LH corner of last pic! To think Clarkson "complained" about the later Astons using Ford and Volvo parts!

It was good enough for the Dolomite so it's good enough for the Aston Martin. Saying that, thae bottles were only just good enough and at least pre-75 cars had brass ones that didn't blow up like balloons when the engine was warmed through. I'd wager that this phenomenon wouldn't have been observed in the more carefully built Aston.
In other parts bin-related news, did anyone moan about their Aston's use of Rootes Arrow range tail lamps? Thought not.

tried to buy a basket case like that once, it had been abandoned in a farmers yard for several years.. farmer said no & it went for scrap a few weeks later....

There are a few people like that about, they'd rather scrap something than give someone the opportunity to restore it to use. there is a word for them but I fear being barred if I use it on hererich. wrote:tried to buy a basket case like that once, it had been abandoned in a farmers yard for several years.. farmer said no & it went for scrap a few weeks later....

Re: Not my car but it is my project :)
boot area stripped with an air powered MBX wheel and treated with rust converter
Followed by two coats of Zinc primer (this was the first coat)
and a hard wearing stone chip finish, the paint is still wet in this photo. It has dried to a lovely even satin finish now.
Sill aluminium covers refitted after a thorough clean. Set the paintwork off beautifully.
New aluminium arch linings trial fitted, underside protection complete, sill covers refitted. Progressing well Yes that is a pair of Triumph TR6's in the background
Boot seal and aluminium trim refitted, starting to look like a car again.......
To be continued...........

I had that issue with a P5B quite literally in a barn (it wasn't lost so I couldn't find it) that I had been offering to buy and take away for 2 years, drove past one day and found the barn had gone and the car had been weighed in.rich. wrote:tried to buy a basket case like that once, it had been abandoned in a farmers yard for several years.. farmer said no & it went for scrap a few weeks later....
The Aston is looking very special It may not be your car but do you get a drive of the finished article?
