hi

im kevin and a 48y/o who loves tinkering

ive been recommissioning a lovely 1992 mk1 mazda eunos (50k genuine). that is now on the road and used on dry days for blasts around the welsh hills

so, i used to love doing classic and veteran shows with my norton commando until kiddies came along. recently, as my brood have started to become more independent (now 14 and 16) i have had thought of returning to the classic scene but with a car this time.
been mooching round at all sorts (mainly high priced junk!) but nothing grabbed me. the nice cars were all way to expensive.
was chatting to my 83 y/o dad last week. i mentioned looking for an old car and he said his old mate trevor(also 83) still had a car that he bought as 2nd owner back in 1967.
i gave him a bell and, as all things that are meant to be, gave him a visit yesterday and a deal was done. a few pictures first of this lady as she has been standing since 1989!

Kevin - Welcome and as you say what a great find ! only thing I would change on it (apart from the oils / fluids etc) are the number plates for a black & white / or pressed alloy type - the reflective ones just look a bit odd on a car of that year- good luck with the project but looks like the to do list will not be that long.

Ooh, nice! I love the Audax cars and that one looks really clean. I hope that the sheepskin seat covers are staying. ;)
I know what Mr Northerner means about the plates but the fitted ones are probably original as reflective types were the latest "must have" accessory back then and that's how most cars from the early '60s on would more than likely have had theirs from new. Dad's Morris Oxfords were supplied with the new reflective plates from his 1961 model right through until his 1968 one as were the H and the K plate Maxis that followed, they were viewed - more easily , especially at night - as a worthwhile safety upgrade back then. 8-)

thanks guys
im planning on leaving her exactly as is, even down to the 8 track stereo player..lol
she is a right time capsule to be honest, totally original and honest with loads of history. trevor (previous owner) is going to dig out all the old pictures he has taken of it during the years, it also comes with loads of spares he has amassed.
on the issue of tyres, any advice on what replacements are available?

There's no shortage of decent budget tyres these days, just have a look at a site such as black circles and compare prices. Radial size for those is, as far as I remember, a 165/82%x13". Modern ones are slightly lower in the sidewall so will be marked up at 80% but that's nothing to worry about.

Toyo are particularly good value just now, I've just put four of those on one of my cars at £140 for the lot, including delivery to the fitting place, valves and balancing. For that period look, you can still find cross plies in the required 5.60 or 6.40x13" but they're expensive, don't last as long and take some getting used to, especially when you go from something that handles as well as the Mazda to a 1960s saloon.

I'm somewhat jealous, though I did like the manual box on my '65 Minx - with black/silver plates. My uncle had two Vogues in the early 60's (I think they were company cars even then - he was a bank manager in Bristol). The first was dark green and the second (about the same year as yours) was the same colour as yours. There was a delay between it arriving at the garage and him getting it: it fell off the transporter! I confess that, if such a car was for sale up here, I'd be very sorely tempted (even if the little tractor had to stand outside!). However, an estate (of Minx/Super Minx/Vogue etc) would be more useful to me - I could justify it on my need to haul tractor parts about (once a year!)

My '65 Wolseley Hornet also had black/silver plates, though the olds bought a '65 Mini Traveller a year or so later and it had the reflective ones. The reflective ones didn't seem to arrive up here until the later 60's - but Cumbrians are very conservative in taste!

I notice the strip.ribbon speedo - if memory serves, these came in with the 1725 engine (though the Minxs got a semi-circle for a horn "button" which, IMHO, spoilt the look of the steering wheel). It must have been one of the first with 1725 - my Minx was a 1600.

I have to say that really is nice, and a proper survivor by the looks of things, always nice to find a well cared for and unbutchered classic.

Hope you enjoy her / him, has it got a name yet? (yes I'm sad that way  )
