Hi guys,

Well the good feeling of passing the MOT hasn't lasted long! I drove the car out the garage yesterday morning only to notice a slight knocking noise coming from the engine. On closer inspection it appeared to be the crank pulley, which looked like it was running 'wonky' (off centre). The pulley has not been removed during all this time off road, any suggestions what this might be??

If it is a damped one with rubber seperating the hub and outer ring the rubber has gone, it is just the sort of thing that fails after extended storage.

Classics Monthly July 2014 page 69. Morris Minor had similar problem - it was 'metal fatigue' in the pulley which had caused it to crack where the pulley sides are welded to the central boss. Had to be replaced.

I also had the same happen on a Ford kent engine.

Thanks guys. The pulley doesn't seem to have any obvious signs of damage but hopefully it is the culprit and not anything more costly!

Panic over! I was away all last week so first chance to have a proper look last night. Tell tale sign was small flakes of red paint which led me to the fan, it had come loose and was the cause of the apparent wobble.

So an easy fix and everything now back to normal (fingers crossed). Last jobs are paintwork to be finished and stripes to be applied.

Looking forward to attending some shows over the remaining season, hope to meet some fellow forum dwellers along the way.

Phew! I had a similar scare when the choke cable on one of the Rebels was catching on the fan. Inside the car, it sounded as though all hell had broken loose but replacing the snapped tie wrap - which had been keeping [the cable] strapped to the underside of the bonnet - soon had my pulse back down.

Brief update...

The paintwork required to finish the car was done but, sadly, the colour was wrong. The first batch of paint that I used to do the engine bay was a very good colour match. Unfortunately, when I went back for some more it had to be re-mixed due to one of the tinters going obsolete (typical).

So the car has been sat in the garage since last summer whilst I busied myself with jobs to keep SHMBO happy! I'm happy to report however that the car is booked in to have the paintwork redone on May 8th so hopefully I will be able to have the car on the club stand at shepton mallet in June.

I'll report back again once everything is finished (fingers crossed) :)

Here we go, some pictures of the finished article. The car will be on the club stand at the Footman James show this weekend making a much awaited return to the show scene!!
