Re: Alvis TA14 Mulliners Restoration

This is the english wheel I have been using so far, I was told it was used by mobile panels beaters and is at least 40 years old! It's got a little play in the hinge but came with around 15 different shaped anvils making it very useful for all sorts of shapes. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2848/1227...

Re: Alvis TA14 Mulliners Restoration

I have invested too much time to stop now and am very determined to see it through! The majority of the restoration so far has been paid for with money I inherited from my grandfather who was very much into classic cars and motorbikes and would tell me all about the ones he'd had growing up. Owning ...

Re: Alvis TA14 Mulliners Restoration

Thanks guys, it's encouraging to hear your responses and makes me wanna get back out in the garage for some more :) It's been kept pretty much under wraps so far so no one who really knows anything about panel beating or welding has seen it so hopefully it won't all fall apart when complete ;)

Re: Alvis TA14 Mulliners Restoration

I thought I had some photos of the inner wheel arch clamped in place but can't find them yet. This is the almost finished article. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2812/12253648173_fcf7c3b291_c.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5547/12253639573_23116d5506_c.jpg I started off by hand beating this into a...

Re: Alvis TA14 Mulliners Restoration

The front of the rear door frame where it goes over the wheel arch (possibly not the technical name) was very rotten http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3737/12242596834_014ef513be_c.jpg I had initially hoped to save it with a couple of patch repairs but as I was beginning to feel more confident at metal ...

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3814/12242115235_3286d519ea_c.jpg This is the second attempt at making the sill, it was almost impossible without a stretcher as it is a compound curve with a reverse curve going against the other (hard to explain!) http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2855/12242678916_52b9e2...

Re: Alvis TA14 Mulliners Restoration

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3733/12252775335_dde14dc7b9_c.jpg The image above shows the new section being test fitted from the inside before the old was cut out. These early repairs were before I bought a shrinker/stretcher so I had to make wooden forms from bits of oak veneered flooring and clam...

Re: Alvis TA14 Mulliners Restoration

Those who know Alvis seem to speak highly of them, I must admit, i'd have liked to go for one of the more prestigious marks but my budget didn't allow for it! Hopefully with a few subtle modifications and perhaps dare I say it, more of a focus on longevity and detail, it will help to show the TA14 a...

Re: Alvis TA14 Mulliners Restoration

Thanks John for the help, not sure why Flickr needs to make it so hard but hey ho. As you'll probably spot, I have not adequately supported the rear of the car before removing lots of it, A, because I didn't realise how bad it was and by the time I did most of it was gone and B, I hadn't thought abo...
