It may be running weak as it is letting /getting air into the inlet manifold etc somewhere (eg via a faulty gasket or breather pipe). An aerosol of carb cleaner will help diagnose - spray it on suspect joints etc with engine running and if the engine falters it is breathing carb spray instead of air...

Good thought thanks. I thought about Waxworks, seriously considered for my 1983 Datsun Bluebird 910 that I have just resurrected. But in the end I chose to buy the wax(es) from Bilt Hamber, a compressor and do it myself. Oh and I got a big old groundsheet to protect the drive. Here goes.
