Re: tyres

To add my pennyworth .... In their day most of these cars would have been fitted with 165x13 tyres - ie 165-80x13 in todays money. Common as clarts tyre fitted to Cortinas etc etc, but not so easy to find these days (or at leaast less choice). From my own experience with my old Datsun (albeit on 14"...

Re: Aftermarket wheels for 1960 Hillman Husky Series 2

Well you are lucky - with Ford PCD's the world is your oyster etc, and you can choose tyre size so as to alter gearing the way you want it. Scrapyards should have loads of choice - although I have spotted some round here are weighing in the wheels whatever so you may have to ask your local to keep s...

Re: Aftermarket wheels for 1960 Hillman Husky Series 2

No direct experience ....but I have seen early 60's Rapiers, Arrow type Hunters and of course Avengers fitted with Ford wheels - as on Cortinas etc. So maybe the centres are the same as Ford so you will have bags of choice options.

Re: Hillman 1390cc Engine

I think that the Sunbeam Alpine sports car (and so also Tiger?) used the Husky floorpan. So there should be lots of options with Arrow etc engines and Ford or overdrive gearboxes.
Lets see the pics?

Re: Film and TV

I wonder why they want convertibles? I reckoned that antique dealers would have large estate cars or maybe a van.

Re: Windows 7 over 8

Many thanks TerryG. I will explore Start8. I (as an ex desktop tech) am quite happy with Vista (am I the only one?) and a notebook on Win7. I took advantage of the £15 Win8 pro download deal, and tried it out but could not get to grips at all with it at all, and so have reverted. I have now reloaded...

Re: power steering

John - of course I should have known. Not about Fords & PAS but that you actually, really, truly are a mine of such fantastic knowledge & detail. Sorry John - keep up the good work.

Re: power steering

Escorts of this era came with a PAS option, so why not remove the parts that are tailored to fit your car from another Escort at a breaker's yard? :? Or go for a new one for peace of mind. The PAS rack - split new - for yours is around £70 just now, the pump and pipework a similar amount for...

Re: Members Classic Cars

I have spotted BobbyMel's Viva estate a couple of times - @ Ryhope & @ Metro Centre, and have been captivated by it. It is utterly straight, complete, proper & rather better than the photo above actually suggests. So nice to see what was a plain and everyday car from so long ago that is not bling'd....

Auto Silencers (Tynemouth) has closed

Sadly I see that Auto Silencers closed a month ago. It was a car parts /accessory shop in Tynemouth (nr Newcastle upon Tyne) that had been there since 1970's or maybe earlier, and supplied to the local garage trade as well as to individuals. I think it had been run by the same family (I think the pr...
