Re: ignition timing.
As above - the fuels used by the manufacturer when they did the original research to decide on the "factory" settings are quite significantly different to what you'll be using now, not just in RON value but in overall chemical composition in many ways. For example, modern fuels are significantly mo...

Re: FBHVC Drive It Day - 22 April 2012
I was out 2 days running with my Datsun Bluebird estate - marshalling in Yorkshire, & on FBHVC Drive it Day marshalling in Durham & spectating in Northumberland on the Flying Scotsman - an endurance rally for pre 1942 cars. Many of the cars were very very esoteric - with period Mille Miglia & Le Man...

Re: Engine Parts Cleaning
Yes, but I have the dishwasher because I'm currently single and not the other way round! Seriously, give it a go. You can steam a whole salmon in a dishwasher too. That makes a far worse smell than cleaning a few bits of oily metal. John - what flavour rinse aid works best with salmon? I have...

Re: non standard exhaust effecting mixture
Could it be gumming up or whatever thanks to unleaded petrol? I recall that my old 80's Ford used to need mix tweaked each year for MOT etc until I started to use an occasional shot of injector cleaner.

Re: MGB? A great choice in some respects.... ££££
Me - I am not particularly interested in any MGB restoration article. For one - however unique or original this particular car may be - the restorer should be able to buy almost all of the parts required new etc, so there should be little need for imaginative repairs or innovation. Besides - I remem...

FBHVC Drive It Day - 22 April 2012
Will PC forum members /owners be recognising this and out on parade? Besides myself of course. What are you planning to do with your classic on the day? Me - I am undecided. I will either be out to marshal on the Ilkley Jubilee rally (at Skipton), or to marshal a test or a control somewhere in North...

Re: cavity wax/rustproofer
I have used 2 different cavity waxes on my Datsun, all blown in with a DIY air compressor. I understand that cavity wax's really need to be blown in as a vapour so as to get everywhere. I was guarded about Waxoyl as I had heard of dribbling problems. Bilt Hamber's cavity wax needed warming, and sets...

Tune ups of older cars
Just to pose a question (maybe a discussion) about engine tune ups or tuning of older spec engines. My car (a 1983 Datsun Bluebird with a bog standard but fit L18S engine) – like all Datsuns I guess – was designed to run on unleaded (2 star) petrol of old. We don’t get that petrol in UK any longer –...

Re: Winter Scenes (add yours here)
Aye, 'it was a Hunter GLS, that vinyl roof was the only part of the car with any structural integrity remaining when that photo was taken. :( Back then, scrapping it was the only way forward (in the picture it was waiting on my drive for the local scrapyard's flatbed to come and take it to car heav...

Re: Eastenders to wreck a firenza?
That Firenza may be another triumph for BBC continuity! The car that has featured so far (in Mitchell's garage - being "prepared") is a 4 door Viva HC. We even heard it running and it sounded to me an OHV ie the small 1256cc (or maybe even 1159) model, not 1800 or 2300. An episode the other day feat...
