Re: Vehicle Inspection Pit

I have a pit in my garage and had one at the previous house. Given the choice I would go for a lift rather than a pit as long as you have sufficient head room. The pit in the last house was dug too close to the left wall ( both garages are double garages ) so that you drove in centrally through the ...

Re: Austin A35 vans

There was a beauty at Dorset steam fair last week . Chap from Swansea has done it up as a Wallace and Grommet van . He had pride of place in the entrance to the classic car section. Last year he had his Wallace and Grommet motorbike and side car there.

Re: Photo hosting sites

Just the advice I need, Used to store my photos on Kodak's website but since they went tits up I have got all my photos on sd cards and cant send them by email. Probably mostly down to my incompetence with computers. I get a bit put off by these sites saying "open an account" . To me that means part...

Re: BMC Halogen conversion

Just fitted a halogen conversion kit to my Maxi. Bought it from Bull Motif spares, same units as fitted to minors. You can't tell the difference between them and original sealed beam, unlike those flat fronted units that are available. Cost a lot less too.

Re: Torque Wrenchtoo small

I have answered my original question about making a bar that I can set my torque wrench a foot away from the nut to be tightened will it halve the torque setting on the wrench? The answer is yes it will. I failed to undo the hub nut on the Maxi with an 18" breaker bar so I made a spanner from a lorr...

Re: My first Tool Chest :)

Whats wrong with a cantilever tool box? or even a couple of them. I would rather spend good money on decent tools that will last than a fancy box to keep them in. Today I broke a 9/16af socket that was given to me for Christmas '68. Still have most of that set but don't use it that much now I am onl...

Re: Metal folder or brake?

I bought a folder from CJ Autos at the restoration show for£40, probably a show price. It works well and is easy to use. It doesn't fold a tight bend but the fold it makes is spot on for making repair sections for chassis legs on Morris minors. That press brake looks a lot more fiddly to use than a ...

Re: Car TV shows, like buses they are..

I like Brian Johnson in Cars that Rock. His enthusiasm for cars reminds me of the late and very much missed Fred Dibnah. He was a true enthusiast with a passion for steam. Brian is very much in the same mould, tell it as it is and to hell with any one else's opinion

Re: Custom made outdoor cover

Try PRO-TEC covers , tel 01274780088. I had a cover from them for my tourer van. They have patterns for most caravans and motorhomes but it is quite easy to measure it yourself. Only thing that could make it a little awkward is if you have roof ariels and heater vents in the roof. Not the cheapest b...

Re: Torque Wrenchtoo small

It's a Maxi front hub. I will probably go down the get it bloody tight and a bit for luck route. Don't have to worry about it coming loose as it has a hefty split pin securing it. What about my theory of moving the pivot point a foot away from the hub? will that reduce the amount of torque required ...
