Re: Going East - getting a UAZ 469 back on the road

Another long delay in updates...... However here goes: Finally got the handbrake sorted - had to replace the entire assembly in the end - back plate, shoes and drum,. Which in turn involved removing the drive flange from the output shaft of the gear box. Once I had all the parts it took maybe 2 hour...

Re: New Project...

Many thanks for the update. This is always an interesting read, as the problems you have to deal with aren't the normal ones a typical car restoration throws up. Sympathies on the Photobucket issue, it's affected many of us. They're not getting my money, that's for sure. Keep the updates coming and...

Re: New Project...

Long time - no update so here goes :) For starters I managed to secure a replacement silencer. It was- I think for a Mk 3 Militant so the inlet and outlets were in the wrong place and the wrong size bore however a quick trip to the local engineering shop got that modified and that was then fitted to...

Re: New Project...

Finally the weather improves to the point I can get back over to the old girl and carry on working!! We had a dry day a few weeks ago and I managed to get the new rear valve fitted - in the process finding out that what i was told was a pressure relief valve in the body was actually an exhaust valve...

Re: New Project...

Yes - the old girl is MoT exempt. But I will get it checked every year as a safety thing. The union's do look rusty - but I was told by the previous owner that they have been moved within the last 5 years and have been soaking in penetrating fluid since August last year. I'm hoping next weekend a fr...

Re: New Project...

Good news - the new air brake valve arrived today. If the weather is OK then hopefully I can have a go at fitting it next weekend. I say hopefully because looking at it today - there are more sealing plugs than I have hose connections!! But the valve does look to be the same if you compare the photo...

Re: New Project...

Some good news to start the new year :D Been hunting for a replacement distribution valve for the air brakes as mine has a jammed pressure relief valve for some while. Heard from a firm called Erentek today - they say they can supply the valves new for £90 + VAT and carriage. What a great way to sta...

Re: New Project...

As actual work is kind of blocked by the winter weather I am now amassing parts ready to crack on when the spring and drier (hopefully warmer weather) returns. Part of the plan to "upgrade" things is to add an Active Noise Reduction (ANR) intercom system to the cab and a Boiling Vessel (BV) to have ...

Re: Rust treatment

First thought on reading Grumpy's post was - what's good quality in terms of wire brushes so thanks all for answering the question for me. :) :)

Not yet!! Although there are times when, mid job I step back and think maybe a few good whacks with tool, adjusting, fine, 20 lb might work better for me!!
