Re: Electric water pumps.
Internet myth rules!! The Stag, when properly sorted, is a good engine. It suffered because it was born when the Rover V8 "ruled" and in-fighting in BL killed development - or what development there was in BL at the time as it seemed that the owners of new models had more to do with that than BL! On...

Re: Cheap Roll Cab Tool Boxes
I have some US Pro stuff and it is typical middle of the range quality - they work well enough for me but may not be great for daily use in a busy workshop. I'd put the firm on par with Machine Mart and Halfords for quality: not Snap-On quality, but nowhere near as bad as some of the bendable spanne...

Re: Sticking brakes
When I wash the car, I usually take it out for a run to dry the brakes (certainly since I bought the Passat, which was washed weekly). I try to dry the brakes when I come home in wet conditions - lightly pressing the brake pedal while coming up our road. That's OK for me - it's only a couple of hund...

Re: Incoming MIG welder query
By strange coincidence, I'm going to change my strip lights for LED floodlights! I had a 500W QH lamp above the bench, but it blew two bulbs in rapid succession (partly because I made it swivel to be able to light the bench or either side of the garage and I don't think QH bulbs like being moved wit...

Re: Series 3 Landie FFR
It could be the tyres that are causing the problem. I have just remembered my Minx had tubes fitted when I bought it and I had several punctures before the boss of the garage happened to pass by and ask why the duck I had tubes fitted when the tyres were tubeless. He said that the insides of tubeles...

Re: Agreed Value insurance, thank goodness for it!
I agree that honesty and responsibility are sadly lacking these days, but I was told by my insurance company that I was doing the wrong thing when I wrote the Cortina off (by me hitting another car in 1976) and admitted responsibility to the other driver. I did admit responsibility for writing the M...

Re: Agreed Value insurance, thank goodness for it!
Best way to handle an accident is don't admit liability , and be polite, to the other party. If the accident is your fault tell that to your insurers. Never lie to them it complicates things and delays settlement. Which is what I was told - be polite and don't admit liability to the other party! Th...

Re: Series 3 Landie FFR
I wonder if tubes for tractor (front) tyres would be thicker? My big tractor has 7.50 x 16 front wheels and weighs about 2 1/2 - 3 tons (and has a fore loader that will lift about a ton) and doesn't have problems. OK, it's a little slower on the road and the tyre's sidewalls are rather rigid, but th...

Re: Incoming MIG welder query
I used to use a stick welder and carbon arc torch, but I would be a little cautious with one on modern cars. The main reason for the MIG was that I was told that oxy welding isn't suitable (MIG weld uses HT filler"rod") - and I got oxy because it is much more versatile than carbon arc (and you don't...
