Re: plumbing...
i have little faith in salesmen... one recently told a client that a wood burning stove would be more efficient if he used shorter lengths of wood :? Shorter lengths of wood mean you can close the door... And yes, I've seen someone trying to use longer lengths like that  The instructions for ...

Re: A Landy is reborn
A confession: I was too clever when wiring the instruments! I also misread the Montego wiring diagram (again!) and made the mistake I made when originally testing the cold start wiring (and forgot that I had made the mistake). For some reason (probably the ring terminal on the lead), I thought the l...

Re: A Landy is reborn
With some trepidation, I connected the battery and made a start with "commissioning" the electrics. The first fuse was put in (for the lights) and the dip beam worked without problems (as did the side lights and panel lights) I discovered main beam wasn't coming on. After some cursing and some subst...

Re: A Landy is reborn
It's getting near the end of the "Outdoor pursuit" season now: I've ordered a new wash basin for my bedroom, which is part of this winter's project! I've spent the last fortnight sorting out the instrument panel and fuses etc. I suspect the "Main" relay (for the ignition-controlled circuits) and the...

Re: A couple of tractors - a slow restoration thread!
Well, the title says it all - things are very slow with the tractors! The little tractor has been in the shed since May last year, the big one since August last year! However, as I wrote in the Landy thread, I want the Land Rover out of the garage this winter so the car can be undercover. That will ...

Re: A Landy is reborn
An action-packed few days has seen some progress - though, when I'm doing wiring, the mess of cables makes me wonder! The new fuse boxes arrived yesterday and were fitted by midday. They still take a lot of space, but at least I can get the cables on the terminals! I've fitted the "Master" relay (fo...

Re: 1979 Holden Commodore VB
But they used Opel "moulds" rather than "Vauxhall" ones.
OTOH, I seem to remember that both Mother's Metros had the fuel filer on the offside rear - and, in spite of the Germans owning the firm for a while Austin and Austin Rover were British!

Re: Eddypecks 1986 Golf GTI
I'm not surprised that the car is "over performing" as they were known to take 70K miles or so to get properly bedded in and VW wouldn't wait that long to test the power output! I always preferred the Mk2 GTi to the Mk1, 3 and 4. The Mk1 looked prettier, but the Mk2 had the niggling problems sorted ...

Re: Austin A30 Seven
Paint the rest orange, paint a confederate flag on the roof, and give it a pair of dixie horns? Just don't try welding the doors shut! I have to confess that it looks as if it could be a "fun" project after all the welding that you've had to do with previous cars. It's a shame that it isn't "cheap ...

Re: A Landy is reborn
I have hit a slight problem: in spite of a large area for the fuse boxes and bus bars, there isn't enough room for them. To be slightly more exact, there's room for them, but I wouldn't be able to get the cables connected as the terminals take a lot of space! I've had to order some more compact boxe...
