Re: The misadventures of a fatbloke and 13/60 Herald named P
^^^WHS^^^ Especially as Aldi seems to be awash with compressors and air tool sets at the moment! OK, two daughters at Uni is expensive - but (going on my friend's experience) the cost doesn't go down they graduate, so you will never be better off :( :( :( I confess that Aldi is a dangerous place - I...

Re: CAR SOS new seies
I'd agree that Tim is probably acting the buffoon role: it will probably be a bit of "light relief" for those viewers who aren't really interested in "old bangers". As such, it might broaden the appeal of the programme which, unless you are relatively knowledgeable, could get very "technical" and bo...

I suggest you put them at the back and reverse up

Re: CAR SOS new seies
The series is new to Freeview, though it is shown on some satellite channel first (National Geographic?). Some of us don't have satellite TV! IIRC, Tim blagged stuff from David Manners before, though I don't remember what car they were doing, I do remember Mr M being able to identify various parts t...

Re: Clocking
Thinking back a few years, the PCB on the Passat's dashboard packed up at about 125K miles and it took a month to get the correct replacement (it was electronic drive with "mechanical" clocks etc. I guesstimated the car had done 132K by the time the replacement PCB came and, when I took it in, I tol...

Re: A Landy is reborn
After several delays this morning, I managed to get the instrument panel and steering wheel refitted and the electrics checked. I've done some "road testing" too - from garage to tractor shed. Unfortunately, there's something rough in the drive-train somewhere - possibly the back propshaft, so that'...

Re: A Landy is reborn
The older David Brown engines had a similar "Ether Plug" on their manifolds and they had a felt pad for the ether. In fact, the "Thermostart" on the big tractor is screwed into the hole that would have held the plug on earlier models. The rule for the thermostart was/is to hold the key in "Heat" pos...

Re: Clocking
I did read a story about someone in Kenya (I think) who had a similar problem with his Peugeot 504. He took it to the local garage and left it for a couple of days. When he called back, the car was in the air with the engine almost at full throttle and drive wheels spinning! If it's a mechanical odo...

Re: A Landy is reborn
I suspect Pete's right about this one - the annoying thing for me is that there is nothing to say how the relay is supposed to work (or even what the terminals are connected to inside the device). The only source of info is the Hayes manual for the Montego/Maestro diesel and it barely mentions the c...

CAR SOS new seies
For those who haven't spotted it, the new series starts on More 4 at 21:00 this evening and is repeated in the early hours of tomorrow (I'd guess that is with sign language). The one they are showing is an E-type, so there's plenty of opportunity for Tim to haggle for discount on the endless list of...
