Re: Soldering Iron

Got my eye on one John, I felt my old electric iron lacked the oomph yesterday and we really struggled to get the correct heat to make a good joint, after reading up last night, I suspect the tip im using has oxidized beyond use and needs replacing, could so do with doing a proper course on solderin...

Re: Soldering Iron

I've been looking at them John, are easier/mire reliable to use than the standard electric irons?

Soldering Iron

Been doing some rewiring on my sons moped today due to a badly routed section of the loom catching the exhaust.
The electric iron I use is quite old and beyond its best, it doesn't seem to get to temperature any more.
What make do you find decent?

Re: The scrapyard on my doorstep

I know of an old landy in similar condition to that one, SWB Station Wagon. I keep having a chat with the owner when out with my dogs and may end up getting it as a project. probably eye watering what is going to cost to get in even a reasonable condition, shame to see it slowly disappearing though ...

Re: Strange MGB electrics?

If there are melted wires in one part of the loom then it's a fair chance that there may be additional issues else where, just need to be methodical in checking the loom run, check the earths as well.
Is there a chance of rodents munching on the wiring in your garage?

Re: 1965 singer vogue recomission

When I first got the Singer, it came with a centre mounted Pye radio cassette and under dash 8 track. I removed these, carefully saving the genuine Roots centre consul. Previously, I had bought a lovely Sony portable radio complete with a car fitting kit so it could be used either as a portable radi...

Re: Do you have a classic car collection? TV show idea

She's owned it from new, so it's hard to think of it as anything but an ordinary car. The car is simple to run, and service, wind up windows, wind open sun roof, other drivers think that you are waving at them. She drives it everywhere that has a safe place to leave it. If we know we are going to h...

Re: 1965 singer vogue recomission

Fantastic weather today so, after a lovely long walk along the Llangollen canal with my dogs, it was home to get my Singer out. Went through Llangollen which was rammed packed due to a combination of glorious weather and a huge scooter rally (scooters were normal size but the gathering was large ) :...
