Re: I'm back! Ford Anglia 106e (Estate)

Great stuff, glad your diagnosis was right. Yeah, that water pump doesn't owe you anything does it? I know the feeling of having an old engine spewing out fluids, yesterday I got our old Morris Minor out for the first time this year, and it was squirting petrol out of a faulty pipe near the fuel pum...

Re: Trying to get an engine to run that hasn`t in ten years or more

In terms of the engine. I`d read that when no 4 both closed no 1 would be TDC on the compression stroke on no1 so, with the rotor being there or thereabouts it ought to be roughly right timed, well enough to it to try and start, I would have figured. I'm afraid what you read was wrong. Think about ...

Re: Trying to get an engine to run that hasn`t in ten years or more

I checked the firing order and that the dizzy is roughly around plug1 when the engine should be TDC. Yes, but are both valves closed on that cylinder, i.e. are you sure it's on the compression stroke? If they're open then it's on the exhaust stroke and you're way out on the timing, obviously. I don...

Re: I'm back! Ford Anglia 106e (Estate)

With the appalling quality of some aftermarket parts these days, the fact that the coil looks new would count against it in my humble opinion, not for it!

Re: I'm back! Ford Anglia 106e (Estate)

Ah, only when hot.... Yeah, I've had coils do that, had one on our Morris Minor that just cut out when hot, leave it to cool down for 15-20 minutes and off we went again. Happened once during an MoT test, which was embarrassing! The difference was that it wouldn't run at all when it failed. Still, at...

Re: I'm back! Ford Anglia 106e (Estate)

Yeah, you'd have thought that would do it, but I'm going on the symptoms, which are classic jet blockage or lack of fuel supply. Did you install an in-line fuel filter? If not, I'd highly recommend it, they're cheap and easy, and even if it's not the cause now, a good preventative measure. Let us kn...

Re: I'm back! Ford Anglia 106e (Estate)

Great news, thanks for the update - keep them coming!

Poor running sounds like blocked main jet in the carb to me, what carb does this run? This wouldn't be surprising, as a few laps of a bouncy field is likely to disturb some muck.....

Keep up the good work!

Cheers :D

Re: What would you buy & why?

What's your opinion on this chaps? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/383653089805427/ Early Jag XK8. I've got one of these, but a MY2001, so later "facelift" version. A lot of car for the money (usually, in the UK anyway) and a lovely thing to drive. There was a long list of "known problems...

We too had the "where to store the cushions for the garden furniture" conundrum, in the end we got a waterproof garden chest, which works very well and provides easy access to the cushions close to where you need them, and keeps them safe and dry during the winter too.
