Re: my latest project, looking for history or info

Dermot, I suspect that the single toot will work quite well but at high rpm be slightly down on power. Which if you don't drive flat out won't be noticeable. The car looks quite nice in the photo. I am just a tad under 6ft and found the Midget on the tight side. The Midget isn't the sort of car for ...

Re: PAS solution for ADO17 with alternator?

I meant one belt to drive PAS pump and the other belt to drive alternator and water pump.

Remember that the crank pulley is also a harmonic crankshaft damper on some cars. I cant remember if the land crab was so fitted.

Bob.

Re: my latest project, looking for history or info

I had a RWA midget 1972 in blaze. It was a lovely little car. All std. I was sorry to sell it but mortgage payments needed. Curious about the single carb. Its like a 1275 GT Mini set up. Does it go as well as twin toots. Parts were so cheap as well a new exhaust was like 30 quid and tyres 15 quid ea...

Re: MGB struggles on hills

Warm engine. Drive car in top gear at 30 mph. Then give it full throttle. If it doesn't pink advance the timing a bit. Try again. If it still doesnt pink advance more. When it pinks retard the engine until it doesn't. If when going full throttle from 30mph in top the car hiccups and stalls. Warm eng...

Re: PAS solution for ADO17 with alternator?

Is there enough room to bolt a pulley to the exsisting crank pulley to drive the pump by a separate belt thus giving a good arc of contact. I have vague recollections of slipping drive belts and over tightened belts and bearing failures on the Wedges. Is there a 2 groove pulley available. I liked bo...

Re: Car lifts

I saw a 4 poster with castor wheels advertised in a magazine. Also water proof kits. 1000 squid for a new one is good for the money plus It's hassle free on the delivery side. And its 240v rather than 3 phase. Hydraulic jacking beams are good but expensive. A good alternative is a girder across the ...

Re: Car lifts

This is common practice. Drips from top car fall on bottom car but dust sheet works. 4 post lift with wheel free is best. These do turn up used. 240v to 3 phase control box may be required. Avoid screw type lifts. Seen one jam with car on it. They had to get a crane to lift the car off. Hydraulic be...

Re: Three brake cylinders ...

Some cars had 4 cylinders and shoes per wheel. Some such as Bentley R type had 2 cylinders working 4 shoes at the front. The back had 1 cylinder called an expander which worked the handbrake linkage which worked both rear brakes. The Front brakes were worked off a master cylinder. The master cylinde...

Re: MK1 mondeo heater blows cold.....

Cold engine. Remove expansion bottle cap. Disconnect a heater hose. Connect garden hose to heater hose and flush 30 mins Reverse the connection and then back flush. Most cars now are air blended and have no water valve. Often the heater circuit on air blended cars is also the pump by pass and the vo...

Re: oxidized iron

Younger people may not be aware of the devastating effect brine has on bare steel. When I was about 12 I stripped and scraped the paint off a push bike frame. I left it out side ready for painting at the weekend. Saturday morning I was sanding rust off. I didn't know that it would rust that quick. I...
