Electric water pumps.

I have been checking out electric water pumps. Triumph Stag engines have a water pump that is at the top of the engine, which runs dry at the first sign of coolant loss. Not a good design. A solution is to fit and electric water pump at about crankshaft level. The thermostat is best removed and the ...

Re: Agreed Value insurance, thank goodness for it!

One doesn't have to respond to other party apart from name and address. I once clipped a car with a Transit drop side. The cars owner went from shouting to meek when I said don't worry my insurers will sort this out. I think he had no insurance. In law insurance is a special sort of contract. Ones c...

Re: Agreed Value insurance, thank goodness for it!

I meant don't admit liability to the other party involved in the accident. But if the accident was your fault own up to YOUR insurers.

Re: Agreed Value insurance, thank goodness for it!

Agreed value insurance is a must on classic cars because the value can vary from a clapped out shed that just makes it through the mot to a conkers de elephant. Price guides vary with classic as well. My car is agreed at £#####. Its middle of road in condition. A minter is 3 times the price. And a d...

Re: PAS solution for ADO17 with alternator?

Poly vee is the ideal solution. Also poly vee belts appear to last much better. Do check out the harmonic damper on the crankshaft. If fitted it must be there otherwise the crank may wind up and run rough and maybe snap.

Happy days.

Re: Incoming MIG welder query

I was taught gas welding and brazing bronze welding as an apprentice. Oxy acetylene is very useful on older cars. I can do neat strong welds that only need a touch with a sodt disc to smooth out. The big problem is distortion its difficult to control. But combined with mig mag welding set .every wel...

Re: PAS solution for ADO17 with alternator?

The shaft size of ACR alternators is 15mm. I once machined up a double for a camper van. The second vee drove another alternator which charged the auxiliary battery. It worked well. The problem with driving the pas pump off the alternator is that the belt that drives that alternator is also driving ...

Re: Incoming MIG welder query

Every thing ones needs to know about welding is on the web. There is a forum devoted to Mig Mag Tig. About 1992 I paid 200 quid for a used migatronic mig mag welder. I use hobby gas argon co2 which is 55 quid deposit plus 30 for gas. The deposit is repaid when the bottle is returned. The time doesn'...
