So a good example would be many of the 20s and 30s Bentleys which had larger engines installed in the smaller chassis or blowers added and were driven in le mans etc, according to the eurocrats these are not historic!

I have used teamac plant and machinery paint with a roller in the past, provided you do it on a cool day it gives a good finish, not sure if you can paint over it with celly though in reality given all the other problems you describe you would probaby need to bare metal it anyway before a expensive ...

The RH arch on my TR7 was like yours 18 years a go when I did a similar restoration (Like you I thought it could have been a lot worse), I repaired the ends and it has been fine ever since, even been used as a daily drive for the first 10 years. it does get stone chips on the lip though (mine might ...

I Use a 50 - 50 mix of waxoil and cheap new engine oil (warm it up to get it mixed), penetrates realy well, does not dry out like waxoil on it's own and costs a fraction of dinitrol etc.

Ref the uncontrolled revving and poor running, does it have overun valves in the carb butterflies? if so this could be the cause of your problem (simple fix is to remove carbs and solder them shut).

Looking good, other thing about the photo is how futuristic the TR looks compared to the other cars. I've had mine for almost 20 years now, fortunately mine (a 1980 DHC) was rust proofed when new which has limited the corrosion to a few areas (mostly seams ) which have only needed local welding.
