Re: Very Close....

Nearly there now after a few odd excursions. Generally everything went together quite well and the remote oil filter assembly turned up and after a pause for painting, was fitted. Then it was onto the engine crane again, and in. However, could I get the two halves to mate up again? After an afternoo...

Re: Morris 10M

Further engine rebuilding progress. The crankshaft fitting went well, the machine shop had fettled the centre bearing which needed no attention and the initial fit of the crank with its caps in place did not reveal the dreaded lock up. I then removed it all again, and fitted the pistons from below, ...

Re: Morris 10M

Its been a couple of weeks since I last posted and most of this time has been spent cleaning components and buying and waiting for new (plus of course Christmas). I have also had the crank reground and new shells sourced and finally have come to the more enjoyable part of the process where one can s...

Re: Morris 10M

Morris were quite advanced in engineering terms in the late 1930’s, and the X series of engines were also used in the famous T series MG sports cars, Y Series saloons and some of the smaller Wolseleys as well as the Series M Morris 10 that was reintroduced after the Second World War. The engines hav...

Mission Creep

I was quite amazed, on originally removing the head from the engine, that it appeared to have standard bores, with little in the way of a wear ridge, and so, was not altogether surprised to see, when having dropped the sump and the first bearing caps from the conrods, that there was no evidence of a...

Re: Morris 10M

Sump is now dropped and cleaned out. Approx 5 mm of thick black gloop was sat at the bottom and the gauze filter was covered with a thick greasy layer the consistency of mushy peas!!!! Markings on the crank suggest that it is standard, but I have not yet undone the big ends and removed any pistons u...

Re: Morris 10M

Haven't been on for a while, but I have been working on the 10, aiming to get things ready for an MOT, amounting to lots of small fiddly bits, and then finally I got around to trying her out prior to a more serious road trip to an MOT station a couple of miles away. Although she ran with a clear exh...

Trailer Legislation.

I don't know if anyone can elaborate on this, but whilst looking to buy a car trailer to cart a classic around on, I came across a comment from an advertiser that warned that home made trailers could soon be illegal. I had, oddly enough , previously noticed on ebay that bids on home made car transpo...

Garage in Central lancs

My family have been using Michael Theobalds Garage in Leyland for many years now on a variety of cars and have found them knowledgeable, fair and sympathetic to classics, particularly when used for MOT's. Over recent years, as well as our modern cars, they have dealt with a classic '76 Mini 1000, a ...
