Re: Will classics ever become affordable again?

Cars rarely appreciate if they're driven daily....................Now obviously most people will know that I'm a Mercedes Benz guy. One car that comes to my mind which is always under valued and under rated is the W114/W115 models and the W123 models. Some Mercedes have such kudos that people will ...

Re: Will classics ever become affordable again?

..Somewhat of a false economy. The sunk costs of keeping them running, fixing whatever goes wrong and keeping them stored , insured and taxed usually exceeds appreciation. Perhaps, but at least they provide a form of transport while you wait for appreciation to catch up with the value of your garag...

Re: Will classics ever become affordable again?

Will classics ever be affordable again? Of course they will! They always have been! Just buy them when they're bangers and wait.......Now where's all those minis I bought for peanuts and thrashed and scrapped in 80's? Remember, in the sixties the scrapyards were full of Austin Sevens, Morris 8's, e...

Re: Will classics ever become affordable again?

Everytime I see one, I look at the hood and think to myself that it must be a huge pain in the rear to fix.

Re: Will classics ever become affordable again?

Not quite 20-30 years old but I've always had a soft spot for these: http://s3.amazonaws.com/photos.ecarlist.com/mg/EO/pG/5s/ot/op/Nj/2m/A2/ab/JQ_800.jpg http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-Chrysler-Crossfire-SRT-6-Coupe-2-Door-/142214911679?hash=item211cab56bf:g:MNYAAOSwEzxYVNPf&vxp=mtr Not sure i...

Re: Will classics ever become affordable again?

I looked at the SLC and know you are a big Mercedes Fan (I've owned a couple of W123's and a few 190's) but they just don't do it for me, as much as I'd like them to. I'd rather a 280, but again I don't like them enough to pay what they are selling for. If I got something German, it would be anothe...

Re: Will classics ever become affordable again?

Simple answer is. Next recession comes along and there will be millions of people trying to sell them and no takers. It's the circle of life. Even E-Types and 911's will drop in price. Simple fact is that cars like the Capri are over inflated. Ford made millions of them. If it was an old Ferrari whe...

Re: timing chains..

Mercedes Benz have always used timing chains. The single row chains will break, double row chains are less likely to but the guides are made from plastic and can break over time. If they do, the chain will jump time and result in valves colliding. Single row chains were good for about 40k miles, dou...

Re: Welding Technology

I pulled the trigger on the Hobart Ironman 230 after finding a killer Black Friday deal. It's arriving LTL tomorrow and should be fun unloading it. It's spool gun ready but the spool gun is $500 so I picked up a smaller 170amp welder with a spool gun for aluminum work. Exciting stuff for my boring l...
