Re: 1971 VW full build (warning lots of pics)
Well you'll be glad to know not too many photos today Engine really should be in by now but I've discovered play in the gear selector 'hockey stick' so I'm waiting now for yet more parts to arrive. All the other shifter bushes are brand new so it seemed stupid to skip this. I've been plodding along ...

Re: 1971 VW full build (warning lots of pics)
Been a busy couple of days, I was intending on just fitting the engine but when I unwrapped the van the engine bay was a lot worse than I remembered. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/89Rallye/68%20Deluxe/Engine/7951B0FB-1194-46D2-AC3E-517B57403096_zpsbs7th4qe.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/alb...

Fair comment, I know what you mean about customs charges.
Have you looked at sensor inserts/adapters? One of them fitted with a plug maybe?

Have you actually checked the postage costs from the USA?
I've ordered tones I stuff from parts to tools and it's usually very reasonable and always ends up the cheaper option.
I bought a distributor drive puller tool just before Xmas, there £45 here got it from the states brand new £13+£10 postage.

Re: Garage head torch recommendation
I work nights in the heavy plant industry and a head torch is an essential piece of kit, I have a few types, a rechargeable one from machine mart that's a few years old and cost iirc around £35. Tbh it's handy that it recharges but only has two light settings and is quite bulky and the light quality...

Who said it was ratty? Although it may well be now but then that's what we're trying to find out!suffolkpete wrote:You could try contacting the owners' clubs, but ratty E-types could be bought for beer money 40 years ago, so it probably doesn't still exist.
