I dunno, a MK2 golf certainly wouldn't be chased out of most classic shows. My brother had a MK2 GTI for years, it was a very nice car. I built my own a few years back from some scrap steel I had left over, It's a bit ott but I always intended on rolling a few campers with it but have used it on smaller cars, it's basically been adapted down the years as and when required.
