Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Lada, Saab, Citroen, Sinclair & AC Model 70

So the second slowest member of my fleet to date is now officially home. The slowest member being a VW T25 with the 1.6 CT engine, that really was almost dangerously underpowered. This isn't. She's just a a bit of an old lady who can't be rushed. However 60mph is entirely possible and reasonably eas...

The Mercedes is now home.

Had forgotten how nice a thing to drive the old TN vans could be...

1993 Riva 1.5E Estate For Sale

Given that I'd been intending to keep this car for the long, long, long haul, I find myself a bit surprised to be writing this post. However I've been offered the opportunity to pick up something else that has been on my wish list for 20+ years. Getting another car means that I need to free up a slo...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Lada, Saab, Citroen, Sinclair & AC Model 70

I've been failing spectacularly at keeping this updated lately... there's a big Invacar update that I'll try to get written up shortly. However the big update is that the Lada is now officially for sale. Went out yesterday to have a look at the camper mentioned above, and it's in far better shape th...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Lada, Saab, Citroen, Sinclair & AC Model 70

Quick update. Invacar hasn't moved in several weeks, having thrown a hissy fit because of ingesting gunk from the bottom of the (now removed) temporary fuel tank. Took the whole fuel system apart and cleaned it, and did the same with the carb. Every jet out and cleaned, including one hiding in a har...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Lada, Saab, Citroen, Sinclair & AC Model 70

The first proper clean up of the year has started now. The Festival of the Unexceptional is only in a few weeks, and both the Xantia and Lada will be attending. So I need to get them both scrubbed up beforehand. There will also be some other big fleet news in the next few days. In other news, I've j...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Lada, Saab, Citroen, Sinclair & AC Model 70

So went to take the Lada out for a test run having wired up the speed sensor. Got one tick out of the indicators then they died again. So back to base, and out with the instrument panel again. On the plus side, that involves removing two screws and unfastening the speedo cable. Takes about 45 second...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Lada, Saab, Citroen, Sinclair & AC Model 70

Speed sensor has now arrived, though I need to figure out which pin is which on the connector before I can actually wire it up. It's the first one I've seen that didn't helpfully have the pins labelled. Did have a brief moment of embarrassment yesterday afternoon when I dropped by the local hand car...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Lada, Saab, Citroen, Sinclair & AC Model 70

Thanks for that. I had a lot of helpful info from Tom over at Lada Parts UK. My background is electronics and vintage technology restoration, so once I'd got a couple of key snippets of info it wasn't massively difficult to track down the fault. A 1.5V offset on an input designed to deal with a sign...

Re: Zel's Fleet Blog...Lada, Saab, Citroen, Sinclair & AC Model 70

The fuel injected Lada Riva lives! It also now has an MOT certificate! The issue was eventually traced to something of a design flaw actually. The original AC Delco oxygen sensors specified by Lada for the Niva (which have been essentially unobtainable for the last ten years or so), it appears have ...
