Re: breakdown truck

That Volvo is amazing... ...Still, how hard can it be to get a gearbox for that?... Gearboxes in those things are to a certain degree, unique. Although they are based on the standard Volvo M40 box, they are strengthened, and have therefore som unique parts. As a piece of totally useless information...

Re: What classic vehicles have you seen?

Enjoying the discussion.

I just found this article online...

http://www.militarytrader.com/military- ... mv_sort_of

it made for interesting reading, but is it correct, I ask myself? As regards the sidelights, (first photo) it disputes what we both say.

Re: What classic vehicles have you seen?

All I can say is this. Between the first ones (1974 models) arriving in the UK in or around 1976, until 1990 or 1991, (when I stopped working with them) I never saw a single US army one with sidelights under the heads. No experience of any that the USN or USAF might have had though. They could possi...

Re: What classic vehicles have you seen?

Not ex-military, there are a couple of differences between those and civilian versions. Care to elucidate? Of course. Two giveaways. Ex-US Military ones (M880 and so on) never had chrome grilles, plus, sidelights/indicators were to the inside of round 7" headlights. Incidentally, ex-US Army ones ha...

Re: What classic vehicles have you seen?

I'm told this is a Dodge of some sort. http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab16/volksangyl/Spotted%20Gallery/201609-01.jpg Mid 80s Dodge D350 crewcab pickup. Probably Ex-military. Very big. I've got one like that, and a 4x4 version, and a couple of single cabs..... Not ex-military, there are a coupl...

Re: LeMons (twin cam 1275 a series?!?!)

I should have made things clearer...a Lotus Ford Cortina Twin Cam engine grafted onto the Mini gearbox... Apologies.

Re: LeMons (twin cam 1275 a series?!?!)

Not the first time a twin cam conversion has been done on an A Series. Back in the early '70's, there used to be a Mini built for hill climbing that had a Lotus Twin Cam grafted to the gearbox. Apparently it was an easy conversion....

Re: Poor restoration query

One of the criteria for someone working on cars for a living is that they have the competence to do so. For as long as I can remember, there has always been a number of cowboys in the motor trade. Sadly, it seems that hese people have been joined by others passing themselves off as "restoration spec...

Re: Going East - getting a UAZ 469 back on the road

There are not two, but three M10 pitch sizes. As was correctly stated above, the usual pitch is 1,5mm. The other two are 1,25mm and 1,0mm. Which one is used depends on the country, and the ISO standard they use.

As I usually say, there are two kinds of threads...standard, and metric.

Re: Going East - getting a UAZ 469 back on the road

What is is with Russians and using different size nuts to the bolt heads? I could be making this up, but I'm 94.7% sure that someone told me that this is a good thing as it means that people who own and/or wish to maintain vehicles so equipped don't need to buy two of everything, so money can be sa...
